Sad Story, you have to wonder what "experienced" means when they don't wear PFD's?

sometimes being experienced means you forget safety....  other times people think you are experienced if you have gone out kayaking 4 times....

"Prosecutors say the women, 45-year-old Doris Rake and her 19-year-old daughter, Kathryn Haney, both of Raritan Township, were experienced kayakers. But they were not wearing life jackets."

Yup, experience of a lifetime!  Sunday saw parents tell their kids to wear their PFD's, then use their PFD's as seat cushions.  Charles Darwin, are you watching?

Hope thas a misquote. Wtf are prosecutors commenting on a drowning unless there's a preceding criminal investigation

In a small township, the Coroner's office is likely supervised via Prosecutor's Office.

Read the comments..  The other daughter/sister posted. They had head injuries.

Regardless of PFD or not, debate.
Please be respectful.

The photo in the ink is misleading in and of itself. My guess is that they were in rapids.
Anything is pure speculation until more information comes forth.
Still wonder why no PFDs?

It's very say to read about things like this. Could a PFD saved them? Maybe and then maybe not. we don't know because they didn't have them on. Sure the chances of surviving is higher than without it. I always wear mines even if it is very hot that's why it's good to spend the extra $$ to get a good comfortable vest so you'll have them on at all times.

They were in rapids so it was even less wise.  I've never not worn a vest and I've been out paddling here in central Cali in 110 weather.  Too many things can go wrong not to wear one.
