Wife is going to be riding in a Dressage clinic about a mile from the lake so she gave me a hall pass to go fishing at Rancho Seco both days if anyone wants to join me.

I should be able to make this one.  How's the lake been doing?  Haven't heard of any algae bloom, but I would think there would be based on this weather...

Are you gonna camp at the lake?

Nope, wife will have the Camper at the horse ranch on the Clay Station extension just south of Twin Cities drive, full hookups and it is free.  I will have my car with the Kayak.

What are you guys throwing at Rancho Seco?  Swimbaits?  I'm used to the tules and rip rap of the delta so I still have not had much luck at Rancho Seco when it comes to landing big bass, especially not off my yak.

I've been out there twice in the last couple of weeks, it took me a couple of hours the first trip to get a bite. that place is one big weed, so I went weightless with plastic and that did the trick. I was also fishing, out deep.

I won't be able to make Saturday, I've been told I WILL attend a wedding of some neighbor. (I can't even recall their names, but DW sure does and that's what counts....)

Sunday I should be good to go though.

You are right about it being weedy, how's the algae / clarity?

BTW, I read a story about a little girl getting killed at R. Seco Lake a couple days ago;

Fish the reeds and shallows early before the light hits the water, then look for submerged islands.  You'll know where they are when you see other guys seemingly in an open area for no good reason.  They'll go shallow to 4' and drop off to 20' or so.  Drift through and figure out how deep they are.  Lots of pan fish in any of the coves in the centers, drop a red worm over the side and wait.  Great for kids or when you just want to feel a tug.  I've caught sun fish up to 11" at the lake.
