So my plans to climb Shasta this weekend fell through with the HIGH avalanche danger.  That leaves me with 2 full days this weekend, which are as of yet not booked with anything.  So I'm going fishing!!!!

Anyone planning anything for the weekend?  I'll go just about anywhere and fish for just about anything.   :smt004

Looking at the wind scatterometer, there may be a short period of light wind in the next day or two, probably tomorrow by the looks of things.  That will be followed by more high winds at or near gale force.  The Bay might be the best plan unless it all blows by quickly.  If a Bay trip happens I guess I'll have to buy a f%^#ing stamp - BOOOO!

I'm thinking about hitting either Alameda, Berkeley, or Paradise for halibut on Saturday.

Alameda or Berkeley would probably be best since there is a pretty big tide and the water doesn't muddy up as badly down there.

Where's everyone else fishing?

I'm probably gonna try and score some shiners from The Tides then float around inside Bodega Harbor early Saturday morning.

If it's too windy or I can't get any bait I'm gonna fish one of the jettys.

I just gotta watch out for the salmon heads, luckily there's no real bite out of Bodega yet.  :smt019

Saturday, if weather permits = I'm thinking of going to Davenport for Halibut (or a rouge salmon  :smt003 ) ....or stay land locked and poke pole for some monkeyface eels in HMB......and then head over to Ono's Hawaiian Grill for some kahlua pig over rice  :metal

Hey Dustin... that might be a plan.  I think I'll join you for that since it's close to home.  I know they've been catching a few Butts in Tomales bay already...  the harbor might be a good bet, and easy access.

Have you ever tried making bait at the Tides Wharf?  Wondering if I shouldn't swing through Petaluma and buy a few shiners just in case.

What do you use to fish from the jettys?  Do you use your carolina rigged cooked shrimp or swim baits?

So I hitched a ride on a friend's PB out of Monterey on Saturday with the plan to target the elusive butts and the even more elusive WSB.  I'll keep an eye out for any of you that might be planning a yak attack that day.

I'm still open for Sunday.  I'm thinking of trying something different.  Perhaps some foothills kokanee or some shad fishing.  But I've not done either before.  Anyone know how?  And anyone game?  A bit of a drive, but hey, I got the time.

We could fish out of my 12' tin can, troll with the downriggers for the little guys.

Or there are some american shad being caught on the sacramento river too, haven't heard much about the american.

There's a decent shad thread going on in the freshwater board of Fishsniffer...

Erik - getting bait in Bodega is hit or miss. There's been times when I've gotten all the shiners I needed in one cast from the Tides Wharf - and other times when it's taken hours just to scratch up a few smelt. I usually try Lucas Wharf, Tides Wharf, or Spud Point - with Tides Wharf usually being the most productive.

If I end up on the jetty I use both cooked shrimp and 4" & 5" FT's.

I hooked into two keeper lings from Doran yesterday, the other jetty should be better. I posted a report on PFIC.

BrianG, are downriggers required to get down to them?  Or is there another setup that will do the trick.  I like the idea of kayaking for them if I can.  If not, perhaps your tin can is a good idea.  You game to go on Sunday?

Ah heck.  My ride for saturday is broken down.   So now I'm looking to yak fish somewhere.  Let's see ... join the guys at Muir, Alameda, or Santa Cruz?  I need a second to paddle front on the Triple if someone knows someone in need of a ride.

Well ... I'm going to try to get out of Santa Cruz and go butt hunting there.  I'll be monitoring channel 69.

Dear Fellow Yaker:

It was a great day at Santa Cruz Harbor. Seemed like Summer but not windy at all. Picked bait up at Shamrock and Roland said,
No Salmon in close so, I'll try for another Butt. I"ll be at the 1 Mile Can and Drift toward the Pier
                                                                          Sea-ya around 6:00 AM.
