I'd like to take my downrigger to Berryessa and fish deep for some trout and kokanee. I assume the area near the dam is the spot. I've only fished Berryessa in the spring so far. I'm looking for tips or suggestions for doing it now that the summer heat is here.  :smt006

Kokoloco and FishWorks should have the info you are looking for.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the time of year to target landlocked kings near the dam, too.

Good luck!

Ken, be careful wat you wish for from the Berry during the sumersumer. It Will be Hot! If you wanna fish for kokes or salmon at berry this time of year, I highly recommend getting on super early, and getting off really early.the skiers start pestering around 9 there. Let alone the heat is no joke there. Kokes are deep, 50-80ft. You will need a DR. The east shore, ranch house,  and the big Island are all good kokanee grounds. Best launch sire would be from oak shores day use area. I would cart in early before gates even open and just park along the rd. Orange and pink is solid color now for kokes there. It won't be easy tho finding them. But big if you do. Goodluck.

I think I won't go near the 4th. I just want to make a try this summer. An early start seems like a good idea. Maybe a little swimming when it gets hot. Thanks.

No, definitely don't go anywhere near there on the Fourth. It will be a madhouse of epic order. Honestly, if your schedule permits, stay off the water there on the weekends during the summer.

I've never downrigger fished there, but I did recently get a downrigger and was planning on spending some time at Berryessa! Post up a hookup if you go.

Troll puta creek, 30' to 40' it'll work every time. Adjust depth based n water temp and/or marking.

I wonder how it is there with the low water. Might be safer in that area.

Heard that the Kokanee are picking up ... east side of the Big Island and in the Narrows near the dam at 40-70 feet down. The usual routine, shallower early and deeper as the sun comes up. Pink hoochies were the hot ticket.
