I started with the Gerber and switched over to the Wenoka.  Yes the Wenoka is a bit pricier, but I'll never go back to the Gerber.  It's like night and day.

I have had a similar Gerber for about 10 years. It gets the job done
I only fish on days that end with Y

Seems, to me, that the older Gerber stuff was way better than the newer stuff.

What leads you to believe that?  Just curious ...

BTW, I've been using a Gerber Shorty (or the pointy version River Runner, which is not available anymore) for, shoot, 20 years now.  I have no complaints and see no reason to change.

Just seems (feels) like the quality of workmanship was better.  Could be a delusion  :smt002

Not super new.  I tend to misplace them before they become too old.  One of these days I'll find all of them for generational comparison

Just ask your wife.  That's what I do.   She always knows where the knife is.....with my flashlight!

me too. imo the quality has gone down at gerber over the years. if you search youtube you will find many people documenting failures of different types of gerber knives and tools. My

experience has been low quality steel or knives that easily dull and never hold an edge.

I've been using this one for two years: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYZ8VYS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00  Since my GRS rusted on me in one season.  I like that it has a serrated and a flat blade on the other side.  I spray it with CorrisonX on occasion, and has not rusted on me yet!

I just picked up one of these a few weeks ago. I love it as far as price..  Keep in mind that its main function is to cut rope in an emergency.

However I have been using it mainly to stab lings in the head to knock them out.  I makes me feel like a zombie hunter. I have to aim for the brain.  I also like that it is blunt tip.  The locking mechanism can be a bit more secure though.
