Hello everyone, I have a friend flying in from out of the country and I would like to plan a camping trip  for us to go on. The place has to be fishy ( easy access to fish) and it would have to be somewhere not to far from where I live. Maybe somewhere on the Sacramento River, Delta, Or a Lake? Let me know if you guys have any locations in mind.

Lots of places at the Delta.  Fishing from shore?  Boat?  Kayak?

I was thinking maybe the Brannan Island campground near Rio Vista. We would be fishing off kayaks.

That's a good safe place to start. Just a few miles south you have Sherman Island and a few miles north you have Hogsback day use ramp and a good chance of a smallmouth. The east side of the delta is also good tower park marina has a campground. I do not advise fishing off the road or levees on the Stockton side at night time to dangerous.

Be sure to get a license for your friend. Have a great time wherever you and your friend end up.

Thanks! Safety would bee an issue being we are both 15, but at least we don't need licenses until next year!  :smt003 Do you know if there would be good fishing around Brannan Island? Stripers, smallmouth or even crappie would be sweet.

Right on Three Mille Slough, where the Brannan launch ramp, you can catch stripers, small mouth, large mouth, catfish, etc. I've caught a variety of fish along that slough.

Are you sure he doesn't need one? Since he's a non resident the rules that apply to you may not apply to him. Saw this that's why I asked

California Nonresident or Out-of-State Sport Fishing Licenses

A California Sport Fishing license is required of all nonresidents who fish in California waters. California Sport Fishing is defined as; any activity that involves taking fish, mollusks, crustaceans, invertebrates, amphibians or reptile in inland or ocean waters.

Hope you guys have fun and look forward to your fishing report.

I just looked on the California Department of fish and wildlife and you only need a non-resident license if you are over 16. Thanks for asking though I would hate to be doing something illegal.

Title   Fee   Description
Resident Sport Fishing   $47.01   Available for any resident 16 years of age or older.
Nonresident Sport Fishing   $126.36   Available for any non-resident 16 years of age or older.

The regs can sometimes be confusing.

Yes, thanks for reminding me. We will be targeting bass and striper. I have a question, I don't bait fish for stripers often ( normally  use swim baits, topwater) but if I am… how likely would I be to hook a sturgeon? Or is that totally unreasonable like it would never happen. If it's possible, then I should buy a report card. Right?
I have never hooked a sturgeon but if I did I want to be legal and prepared.
