I'm a newbie to the forum, and looking to take may Hobie Revo out for some rockfish fishing on Fathers Day.  Anyone else going to be out?  I'm not sure I'm ready to head "out to sea" by myself.  Anyone else going to be out that day I can hook up with?  I've fished still water out of all kinds of craft, but only been on the ocean once!

Hope to see someone....

Thanks

Bodega is a difficult launch point if you're in search of rockfish. There's an MLPA just north of the head that you have to be mindfull of and then its a lot of sand with very small clumps of shallow, very exposed (aka hard to safely navigate) rock outcroppings in either direction.  For salmon or crab, its a great spot but can really be a struggle for rockfish. Maybe head a little north and join a hookup at Fort Ross or Stillwater Cove ?

Remember safety if you do go ... PFD,  dress for immersion, and have your radio attached to your vest.

Thanks for the info. I've gone out of Ocean Cove before, was just hoping to find a launch closer to home!

Anyone headed out at ocean cove, timber cove or Fort Ross?

I know you can't see the members only hookups yet, but it doesn't really look like any solid plans are going on for Father's Day. You're almost guaranteed to find others at any popular spot you go to. Do you have a radio? That's one way to see if anyone else is out fishing when you get there.

I may hit Tomales for halibut in the am. But it will be a super quick try on my way to San Rafael for lunch with the family at 1.

I posted a fort ross hookup for tomorrow,  but the forecast says "hell no." Fishing inland this weekend.  Watch the swell and wind  :smt006

Where are you launching at Sonoma? I'm new to kayak fishing and would love to join sometime.

Can you enlighten another sort of newbie.  What was it about the wind and the swell that said "hell no"?  I really want to learn.

Maybe someone can help me here too, but I generally stay away from 10mph winds+ as the water get extremely choppy and hard to paddle around in the wind

Swells I look at the size a duration. The duration is the time it takes from the bouy(that measures the swell) to go from the peak(8ft for example) to through(bottom/sea level)

The longer the duration(12secs+)the better it is in my experience as short duration means the bouy is going up and down a lot(rough)

Long duration swells pack mor power in the waves so be extremely cautious of 14sec large swells also note where they are coming from as some Beach's are protected from certain directions

I am new too.  Thanks for the short concise answer.
