Is actually a diagnosed psychiatric medical condition…

 Many definitions are assigned, and for me it would mean my electronics are on the frizts, but the true definition;

Comes from our founding fathers of the kayak fishing/hunting world, The Inuit of West Greenland, and appears to be from where the term originated from.

It describes the feeling of being overwhelmed, or the thought of being overwhelmed by the elements, all alone in the wilderness…

I don't know if applies to western culture, but it definitely is a dx in West Greenland…

could apply to some about the "fear"of GWS,,,  maybe,  just interesting we have our own diagnosis ,,,  Progress!!!

The main reason I so enjoy kayaking and fishing combined is that there are so many immediate things to focus on, all the junk from land gets pushed away for a little while.

"Kayak Angst" - best thing about kayak fishing is we can control the "Angst" we get to decide how prepared we are, how far we go, how safe we need to be, what waters to paddle and what fish to search for. Our "mental comfort" is all up to each of us.

Spent my career on the ocean, favorite part was standing on the stern of the ship, no one else around watching the sunrise, kayaking gives me that same feeling.

God, wife, family and kayak fishing, (although my wife may not agree that it is in that order).

I would have thought it was the diagnosis for the feeling you get when you buy a kayak, then a buddy lets you paddle (or usually PEDAL) his kayak.... and then you start thinking of selling your newly purchased yak and other gear to get a DIFFERENT kayak.  :smt044

When I first saw "Kayak-angst" as the title, I automatically assumed it was about non-kayakers who hate kayakers. You know, those powerboaters who buzz by attempting to swamp you or those shore fisherman who throw/slingshot things in you direction. Learn something new everyday ...

angst
äNG(k)st/
noun
noun: angst
a feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of the world in general.

I could never feel that way about kayaking.
Maybe I have kayak anti-angst.

Being 100% honest, the kayak loading process sometimes gives me what could probably be classified as "kayak-angst." We usually paddle a Tarpon 140 and a Prowler Big Game, and I almost always load both by myself. There's a sharp corner to navigate, a narrow patio (and its furniture) to weave through, and a tricky gate followed by a couple of stairs to deal with. However, once they're on the truck and eventually on the water, it literally melts away.

I'm usually with the family and 4 kayaks to set up…  :smt120  always thinking what hurdles need to be crossed…

True for me as well. Just being in/on the ocean has huge therapeutic benefits.
