Ben-

Fished there once with the Chuckster... It does get muddy there too. We didn't do that well but we did nail some trout. I hear that there are big ones in there too.

For your general information the Quarry(Horseshoe Lake) has an alge bloom each spring which turns it a dirty brown and it sticks to what ever is on its serface.Kayak, boat, floattube and fishing line.
GO FISHING AND ENJOY THE OUTING I DO

Hi Ray,

Yes Quarry does get an alge bloom.  But, easy to get off a Kayak (Plastic).  I used some windex and it came right off.

Which Lake Chabot?  There are 2 in the bay area; the less well known one is in Vallejo.  The Vallejo Lake is adjacent to Marine world and they use it for their ski shows.  Access to the lake for fishing is through Dan Foley Park.  I've caught lots of trout in there on small Kastmasters.  There are also large bass, catfish, crappie and carp in the lake. It's kind of cool to catch trout and watch the giraffes on the opposite shore.

Your kidding right?!?!  is it legal to access?  If the Bass are BIG and I can get the ol'yak in there? IT'S ON!  any times(open or close) or crazy rules?
Fishing next to the "Jungle" is all-good with me!

Adam -

Camanche is also getting some Mt Lassen trout plants in the next 2 weeks. I was going to hit Chabot and Del Valle (or Shadow Cliffs) for the MFF. Chabot gets blown out during the rainy season but the area near the dam usually has decent water clarity, enough to troll.  If it is totally blown out, then powerbait along the west shore can work well. See you on the water.

Not kidding.  Access is legal but technically you need to get a boat permit from the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (395 Amador St.).  The permit is free but you can also leave a $30 deposit and get a key to access the lake when the gates are locked.  I've got the permit and key and am the only boat on the water unless I bring a guest.

I've heard several independent reports of large bass in the lake, but haven't caught one myself.  I am going to try to target them during pre-spawn.  The lake gets sporadic trout and catfish plants from DFG.

Let me know if any of you are interested and we'll hook up.
