Just got myself a new GoPro Hero3+ Silver plan on getting in the water for a few days next week to test it out.

I bought a mask where it connects to the mask itself. If anyone has some pointers so I can limit the learning curve it as much as possible that would be awesome. Thanks hopefully next week I'll have some videos to post.

I have a suggestion! Keep the WiFi off and just activate it by hand. I found the battery lasts about twice as long that way.

One other helpful hint would be to keep it secured so it doesn't end up on the bottom of the pacific...like mine  :smt013

might be better to mount on the spear gun.  when its on my head sometimes i can't tell if i hit the record button and have lost some awsome footage because of that .  on the speargun it would be easier to turn off and on

Don't forget to defog your housing before you go diving.

Just curious as to how you defog. I don't dive, but do sometimes send the GoPro down on the downrigger, and it likes to fog up. Putting the case in the refrigerator before closing it over the camera helps, but maybe there is something better?

I use a product made by RainX for mine. https://www.rainx.com/product/glass-water-repellents-cleaners/rainx-anti-fog/  It doesn't take much.

GoPro also makes these:  http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-AHDAF-301-Anti-Fog-Inserts/dp/B009QXFFYS/ref=sr_1_1/180-9904949-8514221?ie=UTF8&qid=1434316498&sr=8-1&keywords=gopro+defogger  Although I have not used them.

+1 putting it on your gun. I have found that the head mounted camera shots can be disorienting without something to keep the picture in perspective. Having the gun constantly in the picture makes the video much more watchable IMHO. Regardless of how you mount it, put a dummy cord on it............

Disagree with the gun. I guess it depends on your mount and how secure you feel it is, but my mount came off and was lost. Thankfully my GoPro was on my head mount at the time.

The gun does look cool in the video for some shots. But having the camera on my head has reminded me to relax and try to remain still, smooth and fluent in movement.

Just my two cents.

If you do decide to use just the regular head strap here is a good video to help prevent losing your gopro. Mines fallen off multiple times thankfully this method keeps it strapped to the snorkel

My biggest problem right now is that my video is blurry just doing test videos in my living room. Don't know if its my SD card or if I just got a bad camera.

I dont dive. But like Nowhere Man, I GoPro troll.  While underwater filming, Ive found that spot metering should be kept off.  By keeping spot metering off, you will see less lighting fluctuations and better low light footage.

In order to keep fog to minimum I have been using Rain ex-fog, on the inside lens of the housing before each trip.  Also, and just as importantly I have been cutting out small panels of paper towel about the size of the GoPro sides, and taping them around the camera itself before sealing the housing.  The paper acts as a desiccant and absorbs moisture before it can condensate onto the lens.

Are you filming with the case off and have wiped the lens? Sometimes the housing can look clear but have a little condensation that does that.

You can wipe inside the housing and make it clear but if there is still moisture inside, especially in the foam cushions it will keep condensing on the lens.

I was looking at the preview when it was linked with my tablet, and that looked blurry and choppy. But once i put the video on my pc to watch it, it was clear with no problems.

What settings do you guys use when diving the north coast 720,960, or 1080?

I just wear mine on the headstrap under my hood...it stays on fine even in surf...

I've never had a problem with fogging as far as I know...and I film above and below on the same days so you would think it would fog up?

Pretty sure I am filiming in 1080...

Good luck!

Jim
