Ive had the Lowrance Elite 4 HDI since December 2014.  Its always worked great until GS9.  Day of the tourney it powered but depth was off and stuck at 30fow.  I powered it off/on same thing.  Powered it off/on again than it shut off and wouldn't come back on.  Lowrance sent me a replacement Chirp unit but this one wont power on at all...took it out of the box this morning to go fishing but when I got on the water it was no go, spent 15-20 minutes troubleshooting before I said F it.  Seriously disappointed.  Got a weekend trip coming up next weekend was hoping to have my gps unit on board :smt013

Battery has full 12.8V, same voltage at power cable connector, fuse is good, wiring is good...am I missing something?

Would they send me a replacement unit without testing it?

Hey NCKA Bruddah,

I recently had a a problem with my 2014 Lowrance Elite 5 DSI unit that would not power up. Luckily, I bought a (whatever happens to your unit) warranty plan from West Marine. I got a brand new FF and rewired the entire system and stripped the old transducer off.
Did you rewire the entire system and replace the transducer and female power supply?
I think it's really hard to figure out what not working when the monitor goes blank and doesn't power up, that sucks big time!!
Hope you can trouble shoot your system.
Aloha,
Da Bruddah (Michael Y.)

I had a similar issue with mine after rolling in the surf. Turns out the spring inside the fuse connection had lost its tension in addition to becoming corroded. Spliced in a new maxi fuse holder and all was well. Don't know if it's the same issue you're having but worth a shot.

Never rolled my yak with ff on board.  I'm getting correct voltage at the female connector of the power cord with the battery connected but unit is dead...I'm gonna take it down to local shop see if they'll plug it to their display unit.  Who knows. Have to call lowrance on Monday.  Still under warranty till December...

Chances are the issue is in the wiring or battery.  A battery can have voltage but if there is no way to allow the amperage to go thru, it won't power up.  I've gone thru this with a handful of other members & it was wiring or battery every time.

To my knowledge, every replacement unit sent out is powered & tested before it ships.

Did your local shop let you hook up your unit?

Sounds like a wiring or battery problem.  My buddy and I have the same unit.  On 2 ocassions just before launching his unit wont power up.  He put his unit on my cable and powered up.  It was his wires.

Local shop is closed today.  I'll take it there tomorrow.  Not sure what could be wiring problem.  All connections to battery and fuse have been in waterproof box inside hull.  I've got the same amount of resistance from spade connector to red female power cable (.2ohms) on both positive and negative wires, fuse is good. Maybe units power cable red plug is bad? We shall see.

I like to use r/c hobby grade connectors for my battery. I have same issues on my hummingbird and lowrance. Salt works fast on cheap pot metal like on those spade connectors. I use deans gold plated r/c car connectors. Although not water tite I can easily see corrosion and clean it.

Thx for heads up.  I'll replace connectors regardless of problem.

Took the ff to Englund marine and they hooked it up to display and it worked, that's good news.  Took battery down to Interstate to get load tested, that's good too.  So now I'm thinkin has to be bad power cable.  Because I tested voltage, and resistance on all the wires, fuses and connectors and it was all good.  So I replaced all the connectors as suggested just to make sure...plugged it in anddddd it powered up.

Sumbitch, just when you think you know it all...lol!  I'm glad too!  Really like my lowrance unit, but I still have yet to use it fishing on my home waters of Trinidad!  But this weekend were headed to Ruth for some camping and water therapy!

From the close up picture of your connector, didn't look like it was greased?  I'd definitely add some dialectic grease to that connector if you haven't already.

+1

Salt will kill your stuff fast. Ive had saltwater get in my boat and soak my battery bag. I left it in the boat overnight. The next day my battery terminals were toast.
I personally carry a small tube in my pfd which I've had for the last 2 years.
