I fished Hennessey this AM…kinda.  I took a wrong turn on my drive to the lake and turned a 1 ¼ hour drive into a 2 ½ hour ordeal.  Damn Google maps!!!!  Anyway I finally got on the water at about 8:15 and it was a nice 65 degrees.  I threw crankbaits along the shoreline and tried some drop shoting.  I picked up 4 bass today with the average about the size of the photo.  By 11:30 the temp had risen to 95 and I called it a day.  I was hoping to hook up with Ring King and his buddy but I couldn’t find them on the water.  This was my first trip to Hennessey so because of the trouble I experienced this AM I will give it another try now that I know the way.  Hope you guys killed em today.  Only a couple photos…

My buddy and I hit the water shortly after 6am and fished until 6pm.  We landed a total of 20 bass with an average size of around 14".  The biggest was 16".  I also spent some time trying to find some of the big red ear that live in the lake.  I know where most of them like to spawn but since that's over I just kind of bounced around floating a red worm under a slip cork in about 8ft of water.  I caught around 35 red ear but only had five decent ones.  They all went right around 9". I've got pics to download off the camera still that I'll post up tomorrow.

The only other kayaks I saw today were a blue and a yellow kayak that headed across the lake towards the spillway while my friend and I were headed to the back end of the lake.  We were in two olive Hobie Pro Angler 14's so we kind of blend in with the tules if you're a ways off.

I fished just across from the ramp and up the lake just past the dam before heading back south.  I was in a tan Outback so we were all  "cloaked"!  Next time we'll get the big ones.  Thanks for the post.

Great report. You guys put in some serious time on a really hot day up there. Way to stick with it. Any pattern to where the sunfish were hanging out ? How was the visibility ? I read something a few weeks ago about near zero visibility after a big algae bloom.

The visibility is getting back to normal.  I could see the bottom in 4-5ft or so.  The algae bloom was treated with chemicals and is all but cleared up now.   I found the better sized red ears in 7-8ft of water just off of their normal bedding areas.  There are so many juvenile fish in the lake right now that it's ridiculous.  If you get anywhere near the tules there are clouds of baby bass and bluegill everywhere!  The submergent vegetation isn't really growing strong quite yet.  I could see some grasses growing up about 3ft off the bottom in a few areas but nothing that's coming up near the surface yet.

Great news and solid info all around - thank you ! I was up there a few weeks before the bloom was treated and the visibility was near zero. You couldn't even see the submurged portion of the launch ramp beyond the waterline. May as well have been the bay given the visibility. Glad to hear all is back to normal.
