Headed up to Schooner's Landing on the Albion River for our annual weekend getaway.

As always, I was responsible for getting enough ocean goodies for at least one night of dinner.  :smt003

Had high hopes of heading out of the cove to some areas known for good fish (dreams of giant Lings and huge blacks and fat reds had been filling my head for weeks), but when I got to the edge of the cove the wind chop and swell combined with the fact that I was solo made me reconsider and I headed back to a sheltered section where I have had good luck with nice Lings before...

Abs literally on top of abs everywhere so no problem taking three meaty ones for the camp plus a couple of big urchins to share.

Just couldn't find the darn fishies I wanted!!  :smt005

Should have moved and explored somewhere else but I was convinced I would find a massive Ling or big cab or giant grassy lurking...I was wrong.  :smt005 :smt044

100+ dives later I had managed to scrape together two 26/27 inch Lings and an 18 inch cab and decided that would be enough for a dinner for 4 adults and 4 kids (it was), and packed it up to head in to be with the family.

Met a new Kraken owner on the water (Brian), enoucraged him to join NCKA (he did-paddleforfish), and was back at camp before noon.  :smt001

Rest of weekend was spent chilling and playing on kayaks with kiddos, hiking, exploring, campfires, smores, adult beverages, show and tell with fish/abs/urchins with other folks in camp, and generally just enjoying being with the family in such a beautiful place.

Raydon and Rider were around so was great to see them!  :smt006

Here is a mini vid of one unicorned gator rolling Ling, and a few pics.

Thanks for looking!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Poor lil Jayme got one!!  :smt009 :smt010

Ana actually took her to the local ER cuz she is not tick/outdoor savvy and I was out diving...they gave her some antibiotics and sent her back to camp.  :smt002

She was fine after we gave her some candy.

I have no clue...I paddled back to camp and the family we were with told me Ana had taken Jayme to the ER...I assumed they meant urgent care...nope, no urgent care supposedly so went to a straight up ER.  :smt005 :smt044

Figure if it made Mama feel better it is all good?

Nice report, Jim.
What are Abalone Bombs?

Chunk of abalone sashimi and some sticky rice wrapped in a seaweed square and dipped in soy and wasabi....even better if you add a little chunk of avocado in there.
