I used to wonder who was crazy enough to spear out on the Great white thruway.  Jim, want to share a little of what the technique is like to hunt the bar?  Totally different then diving the coral gardens in Carmel I would bet. How is visibility?  How do you time currents?  What's the first thing you spot when you see a flattie at Lawsons? I'm never going to do it, but I always enjoy your movies and living vicariously...

That was my first time going there...beginners luck for sure.

I'll be back though and hoping for a repeat at some point this year.  :smt004

Here was my write up and vid and a few pics.

Viz was plenty good the day I was there.

The first butt I saw bolted and I missed.

Second one I saw the outline of the mouth/jaw.

Third one took off...but not fast enough, and I popped him right in the spine and he kited to the surface and I was able to wrestle him into submission.

I went 2 weekends ago with another kayak. We tried anchovies behind dodgers, hoochies behind dodgers, live jacksmelt, and swimbaits.

No fish to report. I think it's a bit early still.

I did have a ball catching jacksmelt on the smallest Sabiki I had and light gear! It was nonstop bait catching all day!

I'll probably go again soon and see if I can find anything.

Just wait alittle bit longer. John I will be happy to go with you when it starts to turn on! It is one of my favorite places, not always good fishing but always good fun. I have had some of my best kayak fishing in that bay! :smt003

I like to launch at miller park (Marin county park) aka nicks cove. Take crab pots of it is the season. I do pretty good with crabs when I go.

I fished tomales pretty hard a few days ago. Trolled anchovies from nicks cove launch to n around hog island to pelican point area.no bites or see or hear of any caught either. Got some good clams n mussels from the beach though and some good info from the chatty game warden I was bullshittin with...wish I had a colapsable crab trap! Wait until theres reports of bait fish being in there and they will be there too... count me in for future trips there! Hope tbis helps.
