Went out with Mike / Sturgy at 10PM. We launched from the parking lot by the Tsing Tao building. As soon as we launched, a guy from the shore hooks up with a striper using a cast master. We made an easy paddle (and trolled) towards the tubes - got there too early - apparently, Mike was looking at the wrong tide table so we stuck it out and anchored by the tubes and did a little trolling evey now and then. I got curious and paddled into one of the tubes and got out on the other end. The guys fishing from shore were surprised BUT not happy to see me  :smt013  so I did a quick U-TURN and went back to the Bay side.

When the tide turned, the guys from the banks started throwing their cast nets and pulling up a lot of smelt. We anchored up and started casting rattle traps and spoons but to no avail  :smt011. A DFG ranger shows up on his truck and parks along HWY 101 and tickets one of the guys who was using a cast net while his rod was in the water - I guess he did not have a two rod stamp - The ranger told me that a cast net counts as "line in the water" .We stayed till 3:45 and headed back. The weather was great - the wind was not a factor at all.

Mike - it was fun fishing with you again - it's been a while - glad you had some free time being the busy Father and Husband that you are  :smt002

10PM!  is this a typo?  If not, that's pretty hard core!

Coool... it looks like you found a good place to make bait on that side of the bay.

Yeah - the Brisbane tubes definitely has a healthy bait fish population - but, you have to time the tides just right AND you have to hike (or ride your bike) to get to the tubes.

The guys fishing from the banks basically had a two- hook set with the live smelt with no weights (3-way swivel). They just tossed it out on the current and free spooled it out on the drift. Unfortunately, no fish were caught at the time. A few boaters showed up but none of them faired any better. One of the guys on the bank said he did pretty good last week.

Redwood Shores and the Port of Redwood City have a lot of spots to make bait - without having to time the tides.
