Anybody got lights on their kayak?  I'm looking at ordering their Deluxe Kayak Kit to put on my Pro Angler 14.  This would include the strips for the bow and stern in blue/UV to help while night fishing.  Last year I used a separate portable plug in style black light but it was a pain with the wires lying on the deck, no real sturdy way to mount it, and because it had to sit "on" the kayaks deck I had a bit of glare to deal with that made it less than stellar.

I like the idea of the SuperNova kit because the strips are mounted to the outside of the hull which should stop the glare issue and because they're LED they should have virtually no power draw so I can use my existing fish finder battery.

$229!  Go to wally mart's auto section, look to their LED light strips!  A lot less expensive, you can get waterproof switches at auto parts strores.  $229 seems a little steep.

Looks like it's "only" $159 at ACK:

Regardless of the price, I'm not sure I see the point of having a lighting strip on a kayak. I use a cheapo headlight so that I can see what I'm doing. And if I wanted to be more visible to other boats, I'd get something like this:

Headlamps with white lights spook fish.  You could use a red filter but that would only light up whatever you were looking directly at.  I need something to light the general area that I'm fishing to aid in casting and navigation.  On moonlit nights it's not bad out there but this morning for instance it was completely black out due to overcast skies.  I was on Lake Sonoma and there's no ambient lighting so even after your eyes have a chance to adjust you still can't see anything.  I ran into a tree in the lake this morning and pedaled directly into the bank on more than one occasion.  That's not even considering that I'm casting swimbaits that cost in excess of $100 a piece and I'm not sure whether they're going to hit water or bounce off of a rock bank.

Blacklight are the way to go and when paired with fluorescent line it greatly aids in strike detection when fishing soft plastics.  I'm hoping to find some blacklight LED strips.  I've got a regular blacklight from my old bass boat days but it has to be deck mounted and would only cover one quarter of the area around the boat.

And yes, the kit I was referring to was the $159 kit.  It has two 20" LED strips for the bow and two 10" strips for the stern.  Also, all LED strips aren't created equal.  Those cheap ones that claim to be "waterproof" are far from it!!  The ones that SuperNova sells are certified to be submersible.  All the guys that fish the KATS events down in Texas use the SuperNova brand and swear by them even over BlueWater LED which is a major brand used in the bass boat markets.  Apparently BlueWater has had some quality control issues lately.

I see (pun intended). Being primarily an ocean fisherman, I hadn't though much about spooking fish or running into the bank...
