I'm looking forward to getting out on the water finally after spending the last couple months cooped up studying for my last exam for med school.  I take that on Friday and hope to be on the water Saturday if conditions are right.  I haven't tried the GG Bridge area before but based on some past threads it looks promising if the current isn't ripping through.

I plan on putting in at Ft. Baker in the morning, maybe fishing my way to the north pillar and possibly heading west toward Pt. Bonita for some rockfish and lingcod or whatever else comes along.  Any of the cool cats on here are welcome to join and I'm definitely open to any advice people have on this area.  I have never fished it before.

Cheers!

+1.   Ships blowing by tend to kick the swells up to 10'.  Make sure you watch the tide & wind.  It's best to come back on an incoming tide with the wind to your back.  Buddy up, have your vhf, & b safe brother. :smt006

Wondering how the adventure went

I spent a lonely afternoon under the gate once hugging my dive yak like it was my sweetheart after tide started running and I couldn't pull my anchor

It was nice to be out but the bite was really slow.  I got a few very small rockfish (4-5") as soon as I got out there, then hit a dry spell for a couple hours.  I was daydreaming and not paying attention when something absolutely crushed my 1oz bucktail jig in 15 FOW and ripped the rod from my hands.  Thankfully I caught it in my armpit and was able to fight the fish for a few seconds but it fell off.  I have no idea what it was, but I've been fishing for nearly 40 yrs and have never been hit that hard.  I stayed in that area hoping to hook up again but that was the extent of the day.

I stayed on the bay side of the bridge since the tide was ripping through pretty good most of the day.

Sounds like white sea bass, shark or a seal. I prefer to think a WSB mistook the bucktail for a squid!

Could have been a striper too. I've caught a few in that area plugging from the shore by the pier. Neat thing about that area is it could have been pretty much anything.
