I'm 6'4"/200.  Want to buy a 7mm dive suit - anybody have recommendations on which brands (besides going custom, like Polosub) fit better on tall/slender frames?

For reference, Isurus LT surf wetsuits fit me perfectly, and Matuse isn't bad either.

I am 6'6" at 195 and don't think there is such a thing as an off the shelf suit for guys in our size range. I picked up a 5mm open cell custom from Spiros at Oceanos for $225 delivered and don't think there is a better deal out there.

His website is a little confusing, but for me, it was worth the hassle.

I have been diving this suit for three years with no complaints.

Full disclaimer, I have no affiliation with this company, just a satisfied customer. Lots of third party discussion around the spearfishing boards.

Off-the-shelf suits exist for us in the surf world - Isurus and Matuse LTs will fit and Buells aren't that bad either.  How long did your Oceanos take to get made and delivered?  I will buy one if my trip to the dive shop today to try suits proves fruitless.

I surf an O'Neil Large-tall and have never had a problem with their sizing. For me, the breakdown came when trying to find an open cell suit in my range. No open cell O'Neil's......... The open cell combined with custom fit has made for the warmest suit I have ever worn. I ordered the farmer john bottoms so it ends up being a 10mm over the torso. Compared to the 10 year old 5 mil XXL O'Neil nylon lined dive suit was wearing before that it is amazing in every aspect. Of course, just about anything would have been a step up from that suit.

It has been three years, but IIRC, it took about a month from placing the order to receiving the suit.

His email response said 2-3 days to make and 2-3 weeks to ship.

Price correction, it was $239 delivered. Everything I researched more locally ran $500+ for a custom suit.

Speardiver makes suits for tall and skinny guys off the shelf.  If you're an LT or XLT, that's probably not enough, though. They guys in the photos are anemic.

FYI, I'm 6'3" and was 195 when I bought my Mako L. Fits fine in the body, just have to get used to cold ankles and wrists.

Jeremy, the Mako L fits off the shelf?  Not an XL, which would be closer to the correct size by their chart?

I'm leaning towards a JMJ custom chest zip at this point.  I like one piece chest-zip suits.

long gone are the days when all wet suits were custom made tailored to fit. my first wet suit in 1969 sheet of neoprene laid on floor me on top of it an outline traced with chalk. cut and glued together. nylon covered neoprene was still in its infancy. had to Starch up or baby powder could get into them. always bringing your wet suit glue to repair seems.

I'm 6'4" and 190. A few years ago I bought an off the shelf Sporasub. Ended up sending the jacket back for an XXL and XL farmer johns. Fits great, but it was expensive, I think $360 total for both.

Since then, I bought a custom suit for my daughter and if I was doing it all over for myself that's what I'd do. I got it though Petros Yiannikouros at SpearAmerica who orders it made by friends of his in Greece. They include shipping to your door for a price of $290. You give them something 24 measurements (be careful all in cm) and pick the color and thickness.

My daughter freakin' loves her suit, which she's been using since last June. For some reason the pants came 1 1/2" short, but I sent them to Petros and for no charge they were fixed and now they literally fit like a glove. She almost never gets cold and is so comfortable in the water, it's fun to watch.

If you don't find Petros by googling Spear America, I have his cell:310 923 1311. Tell him james recommended him. (I have no connection or business with Spear America, just a customer)
