So the Coast Gaurd Auxillary will be at the launch ramp on Saturday morning (5am) performing voluntary vessel safety inspection, handing out free whistles, & vessel identification stickers. This is a totally voluntary but I feel well worth the 2-4 minutes to complete. They love kayakers because we usually have more safety gear than boats.

I hope any people are able to take advantage of this and at a minimum get the vessel ID sticker.

So are they going to cite people for going out without every piece of safety gear required by law? Or will they be a permanent fixture at my event from now on? Should everyone make a mad dash to get flares now?

Yes EVERYONE RUN OUT AND GET FLARE GUNS. J/K  :smt044 :smt044 :smt012

This is a voluntary safety check that I have done at ORC and was a no hassle experience. Being it is voluntary you don't have to do it if you don't want to. IT IS NOT MANDATORY. They will not be handing out citations or anything like that so don't be afraid to have the safety check.

I would hope they were at every event because it only brings the level of vessel safety up. But this is your event and that's why I asked permission before setting this up.

See everyone soon

If it wasn't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all?  Sorry to see/hear that!

I'm getting ready now. But won't able to leave until tomorrow AM. The kayak and gear has to stay home for now! Just a few fishing stuff and car camping essentials . Hope to be there Friday Noon :smt001

I"ll be in the Black and Silver Honda Odyssey.
