vacation rental this august

Friends from L.A want to catch up in early August.  We are looking for a house that would fit 16 people preferably lakefront anywhere between the Bay Area and L.A.  I figure I'd tap into this knowledgeable group of folks for suggestions.

thanks but was hoping for recommendations for specific lakes or places, then I look for housing.

When I was young we  used to rent a bunch of house boats at lake Shasta.

When I was young we  used to rent a bunch of house boats at lake Shasta.

Shasta is too far of a haul from L.A.  I did the same at lake Don Pedro and my friends from L.A (from way back) actually went on some of those trips.  Back then Pedro had affordable house boats, but after Forever resorts moved in, the cost became unreasonable.
