I've got some of these and the guy at the shop said,"turn them upside-down and then the hook point will be IN-BETWEEN those flapped sides and it reacts more-eratic than rigged with the hook point pokeing out of its "spine".
Anybody else hear of such a thing?  I rigged it the upside-down way and have not got it into anythings mouth YET!

Hey Adam,
I use the flukes alot fishing weedbeds and tullies in hotter months, but havent heard or thought to reverse the hook.
I personally fish it weightless and weedless, just dragging it over the growth and letting it fall a few seconds into the holes, then the slightest twitch will bring it almost to the surface for another helpless and injured fall. Looks like alot struggling bait fish to me when fished in the standard format.  I think I may get on the water tommorrow and ill throw one to check out its action. Though  Im thinking that it will be rip baits with a slow to dead presentation that will take victims right now. ill let you know what happens.

Adam:

I fish it the same, or I have also used them on a jig head with good results as well.  They look pretty lame, but the Zoom fluke is a GREAT bait.

Joe at Western Sports Shop in San Rafael showed me a cool way to rig a Zoom bait. Use what is called a "Flutter Hook" made by H&H Lure Co., basically a 90 degree kink behind the eye and then maybe a 1/8th oz. of lead weight around the shank of this 3/0 worm hook. You rig it like you would a plastic worm so the hook point is resting flush on top of the bait so it's pretty much weedless. I haven't fished this set-up but it looks real good. Tom

I'm a big fan of the fluke, but I have never rigged it upside down....

Hmm....  An interesting idea.

Worked the fluke the other day with no results. I used the alternate hook position and It didnt seem to act that much differently, but I did notice that my hook didnt stay where I wanted it.
Just my experience though.
The fishing has been really slow for me here.  Locals are either fishing shakey head jigs, with a floating worm, presented slow or live minnows (no thank you).  My predicted rip bait bite never materialized.
maybe tommorrow.

I use fluke alot. Mustad makes a few bellie weights for them in diffrent sizes and diffrent location of the weight, on the hook on the shank one you can peg it in the nose of the fluke. :smt006

I think the I've got some of those......a  small drop of lead/wieght that is molded onto the shank of the hook ,right?
