Well my local stores don't have jig heads that weigh more than 2oz.  Those don't work so well with 9" hammers and jugs.  :(. I wanted something like 6oz!

So being who I am, I wanted to get setup for my trip tomorrow and make a few if heads out of whatever I could find and have laying around...  Now, I will never buy another jig head!  I will make these little buggers!

6oz triangle weights
30lbs rings
#8 mustard bait hooks (straightned)

Paint any color and only $1.50 each!!!

Nice idea!

There is someone on NCKA who makes some very awesome 3 and 4 oz jigheads.

I haven't found a local source for 5 or 6oz yet!

Thanks!  The fact that the hook is not firmly attached make it "swim" a little easier.  Like adding a joint behind its head.

Great idea. I have those pyramid molds, but not the 5/6 oz jig heads

Nice job using tackle you already have. I just got a new mold for 6 and 8oz minnow jig heads that I really like.  If you ever need some shoot a pm.

I think that scampi is rigged just right. I've caught plenty of fish with them "upside down".;)

The scampi is fine. Just turn the hook over.

Great idea indeed.  But instead of a pyramid sinker why not use the torpedo.

It's what I had in hand that fit snugly and was the correct size and weight.

You definitely want to turn the bait around. It will swim much better. Add some big ol' eyes to the sinker and your ready to roll. Great way to use those pyramids! Thanks.

Pretty darn good idea.  :smt004  Thanks for sharing it!  Seems cheaper than larger lead heads!

Ever feel like getting crazy ... rig the bait loose and tie to the split ring in the middle!  Seriously.
