Bearing shields

All,

I'm inclined to remove the bearing shields in my reels.  Let the water out for easier maitenence.

Discuss.

You'll get other grit in there. I'd leave the shields on.

one option is shielded only on one side and try to keep the shielded side
out. then if the reel does get dunked, pop the bearings out when you get
home, rinse them in acetone, blow dry with compressed air and re-lube.

my ceramic bearings are shielded on one side only.

Very interesting idea.  Thanks, you just reminded me to buy acetone today!

carb cleaner and compressed air!

Carb cleaner.....good idea.

The only acetone today I could find was the 100% pure acetone (with bittering agent added).  How that is 100% pure is beyond me......

I'll get carb cleaner tomorrow.
