A 20 fish day consisting of 10 RF, 2 Ling, 2 Salmon, 3 Hali & 3 WSB would be EPIC on a yak!!!
I think it'd be epic on a pontoon boat as well.

If one catches that many fish in one day, just haul a small yak behind you and throw a few fish and the stripper in the extra yak. The stripper can clean your fish & count all those $5 dollar bills while you keep them coming.

You should really at least read the regulations for the species you are targeting.  I found these from the online Ocean Sport Fishing guide here:

Attention Anglers:
Upcoming Regulation Changes for Pacific Halibut
As of press time, the 2015 recreational Pacific halibut season regulations (Section 28.20(a))
have yet to be determined, and are not printed in this booklet.
Following the determination of the 2015 California recreational quota amount (in late
January, 2015), CDFW formulated and provided a recommendation to
the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) on the desired 2015
season structure in time for inclusion in the federal regulations, to be
effective in mid-March.
The 2015 recreational Pacific halibut season dates will be published
in the Federal Register and available on the NMFS halibut hotline
(800) 662-9825. They will also be provided on the
CDFW website, and printed in CDFW’s 2015-2016
supplemental fishing regulations booklet available
 in May.

I have been told by the Fish and Game last week that I can't target Halibut if I landed rock fish on my boat, which I still not clear the regulations for that.  Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks

Not true... You just cant use more that 2 hooks and one rod.  Check gear restrictions section for RCG complex.  But also, you cannot "take" a rockfish if you have more than two hooks or more than one line out either.  :smt002

Or target halibut beyond the local depth restriction for RCG.

-If you have a salmon onboard, then you have to use barbless single hooks (on lures or if trolling) and barbless circle hooks if using bait. And no more than 2 hooks per rod and only 1 rod per person.
-If you have rockfish onboard, then you can't fish deeper than the regional depth limit and only use 2 hooks per rod & only 1 rod per person.
-If you have stripers onboard, you can only use 3 hooks per rod & 2 rods per person.
-If you have halibut onboard, you're not affected by such issues.
-If you have strippers onboard, you can only use 5 dollar bills because she's probably hella classy.

I just read this in another topic.

To be consistent with international and federal gear restrictions already in place, state regulations now limit anglers to one rod and no more than two hooks per person to take Pacific halibut. New state regulations will allow the use of a harpoon, gaff or net to assist in taking a Pacific halibut that has been legally caught by angling.

Yes, but who besides Rob is targeting them?  We are pretty safe down here from worrying about Pacific Halibut gear restrictions...

Eric, Sarah, Jeremy, Cameron, Adrianne, Jason, Byron, Brandon, me, just off the top of my head.  Probably missing people and then there are the lurkers.

We don't have much of a california halibut fishery but we do have pacific halibut in kayak range "up here".

I considered the pacbutt factor before posting my abbreviated list. Then decided it didn't matter enough to include it as parenthetical information. But I don't want to disenfranchise our "true norcal" brethren...so here's the update.  :smt005

-If you have California halibut onboard, you're not affected by such issues because you can use any combination of rods & hooks to target them (unless it's a pacific halibut, in which case you can only use 1 rod and 2 hooks max, when in season).

We don't have much of a california halibut fishery but we do have pacific halibut in kayak range "up here".

Jeremy and Matt are the only ones so far who were actually targeting a pacific and caught one, besides that it's only been lucky bycatch. Racin Rob came here and got one too.

If the weather cooperates and the quota last a while this season I plan on catching a new personal best with means over 50".  It's not easy cause you choose the size of the fish, but there are usually a half dozen or so halibut caught over 70lbs up here every year.  My ultimate goal would be to win the halibut derby at Englunds marine or the Trinidad pier since you have to compete with power boats.

Adrienne will be the first woman to catch a pacific halibut from a kayak in California and possibly the west coast excluding Alaska cause there has to be one caught by a woman there.
