i have one. How do you guys maintain them. Mine seems to always get jammed up after a few sessions in the salt, even after rinsing . I had to send it in twice for repair. :smt013

I have to clean mine every 5-10 trips.  And I find I have to replace at least one bearing every 1-2 years.  You can get bearings from Avet for $5 each.  I just buy the whole kit (every bearing at essentially $5 per bearing) to have on hand.  When I use one up, I buy a replacement so I have it "in stock" in my garage.

yup 5-10 trips sounds right, I had to replace the whole drag . I never use it anymore. Thought about selling it but the amount of money I invested in repair doesn't add up. Changed to a Shimano tr100 been 3 years never had an issue.

Mine are 4 or 5 years old now.  I havnt done anything more than wash them most of the time and oiled them a couple of times.  Both have been used on a few albacore trips and almost all of my halibut trips and I havnt had any real problems yet.  They are due for a good cleaning inside and out and a lube job.

To be honest, most of the time I don't service them because they are outright broken.  I service them because there is nothing smoother than a well tuned Avet.  But I do believe Avets are more subject to salt water intrusion than other reels, at least from what I see when I break them down.  Greased drags help.
