anyone drop shrimp pot while dropping crab pots. I've been curious about this for quite some time. buddy of mine says him and his dad used to do it 25 years ago and always caught shrimp. talked with guy purchasing shrimp trap at Pro Shop last year. said he threw crab pot out pulled up empty and fish carcass meat all 8 up. said there was live shrimp in the skeletons of fish. he was at Ocean Cove crabbing and said they were rock shrimp.

We used to stack shrimp traps on top our crabpots and drop them in about 200' out of HMB; but wasn't worth the effort. Only produced enough for 1 shrimp cocktail :smt011...

So we stopped...

Interesting topic….I was talking with a guy in the cove last weekend who used to wrap his crab traps in burlap (except the doors and rot out rigs). He claimed the spikes on the shrimps legs would get caught in the burlap and they couldn't escape. Gonna ask him some more questions next time I see him..might even try it out.

burlap over crab pot interesting. 200 feet deep for a shrimp cocktail sounds like a bust. anyone else have any input or knowledge on it ?

Some guys will piggyback shrimp traps on the crab pots. Usually out deep. This would be power boaters out of Bodega. Should work if the shrimp are there.

I caught what I think were coonstripe shrimp in HMB a few times, using my promar 101's, whihc have small holes and they got stuck inside the trap.  Didn't keep them though, looked full of eggs and wasn't sure what to do with them.

In AK we target them 300 to 600 ft down. I opted to use a downrigger. The brute force method with rope is too much rope. The rod and reel method takes a low geared reel and about thirty fewer years off my body.

The video I shot is with my mini-x no less. Lol.
