I got deals on this unit and added the navionics gold chip

bitchen used it 'all' weekend for the firs time...bad ass to see the MPA  lines and my route out and back and how close to any no no zones etc...bad ass

worth every penny if it keeps a stiff fine off my wallet---bad ass...100% worth it and works-easy to see my yak and any MPA,even for dummy's like me--worked all day on simple 20$ 12v 5 AH battery

screaming deal...check this price anywhere else

maybe you tube..

I spent a LONG  time trying to understand what chip and what I would get for my $$...but basically go to navionics and click their prompts.,it shows what chip goes with each Co. and each model from each Co.

call them with any questions and then call your FF finder company

basics.

chip goes into my lap top and wakes up---freshens up any new data from navionics mother site..then is 'fresh'
anytime I log in the mother...it will update itself and show my info to mom

also I only really needed the mpa's...so the other tons of features my FF has and chip has wil go unused till I stumble onto them by accident

in the end it was simpler than I made it...plug in and go and the chip 'lays over' any topography my FF has already.....kept me legal and showed me the no no line right away...where before I was using known land marks that the dfg had colored in etc..which were by my markings OFF..the chip is correct 100% of the time

I got this pic off google images--fwiw I dont remember seeing so many words when I used mine but the detail and buoys marked and red no no zones and depth marking were the same...also it told me the name of where I was -I remember that much--

you'll see any area you fish with this type of info and detail...then you can screen back and forth in just normal FF mode most of the time or split screen it...when in question zoom for names and clear lines

I'm hoping to preview the new Lowrance Nautic Insight PRO & HD V15 chips this evening & tomorrow.  IF I do, I will capture some screen shots & post up my findings.

In regards to Navionics, I will see if I can reach on to a friend who works for them & get an assortment of 'demo' chips so I can post up some comparison screen captures.  We'll see.....

Thanks guys. Really  appreciate this. I've been wasting so much time on the water  scouting for new reef and dodging mpa's it's getting frustrating and non effective. I  can only get out once a week so time is so precious.

This sounds great about navionics. let me get this straight:  So the navi maps will overlay with  your GPS and your location icon will move around on navi map hence  seeing if you move over the mpa line right? Also I presume the mpa boundaries are inbeded in their topographical maps as well and able to overlay with your positioning?
Sorry about the noob questions.
Thanks

yes...that example pic i showed would have your FFinders  pre loaded  stuff...over layed by Navionics intel...and you as an arrow showing position and an arrow showing what way your pointed to travel in...if you spin the kayak the little arrow(you) spins...also it shows a little trail where you have been/come from in a colored line and you can paddle in the fog back to your  launch line to go back to the cove you launched/parked at...bread  crumbs...when hiking type deal...

i used it for the first time spun around in thick fog and my f.o.w was throwing me off thinking I was o ff coral st sunday..when really an under current had pulled me and a buddy past point pinos in the fog..and the shallow reading was because we were over by asilomar...the crashing waves-we thought were coral st--could hear them--- were really on the points big rocks...I turned on my gps Navionics screen and it showed  dark line of me leaving coral and slowly zig zagging out and around the pt....so i pointed the arrow back at my line and after a little getting used to it (like cutting your own hair in the mirror) we paddled back on my out route and home...all in thick fog..

super simple..put the chip in a FF that works with it..turn it on and watch the world...super cool...I will never not have one now...also worked good in oneil forebay when were there-inland fresh water- and knew where I was and named it and the surrounding areas with me  clearly marked in the center of the lake and the arrow showing direction etc..

hey guys, if you want to see exactly what is on each version of Navionics, go to this site: http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en
On the left-hand side there is a blue arrow. Click on that to expand your options (Navionics Platinum vs Gold vs Lakes etc) then select one. Simply zoom in on CA and you'll see which Navionics versions include the MPA boundaries. The screenshot below is from the Platinum chip...which DOES include MPA boundaries.

It might not work as well on mobile devices.
But on an actual computer, it is VERY easy.

On the left-hand side there is a blue arrow.
