I started kayak fishing in La Jolla, San Diego and the local fisherman would wear waders with no horror stories.
The water and air temps are a lot warmer in La Jolla. We do in fact have horror stories up here. I can think of one tournament director who probably wouldn't want you on the water in waders at his event.  Better to error on the side of caution - safety first

What are the horror stories from up here?

I wore waders while kayak fishing for almost six years without incident up here. Even got rolled in the surf twice while wearing waders and the only water in the waders was what my shirt wicked in.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Would you wear waders in a boat? Probably not. Same deal in a Pro Angler...it's pretty much a boat. Might as well wear some Grundens & Tuffboots hahaha.
Thanks for the report & fishporn.

Nobody's  died, but we've had people flip  and on the edge of hypothermia at GS and Albion. One heck of a lot more shark attacks than La Jolla. I myself flipped once and the leverage on my extended rod holder caused the mount to rip out. putting a hole in my boat. Several people have  had leak and sinking issues. It's a lot harder to get back in your boat when it's partly filled with water. If I was fishing La Jolla where the water temp approaches 70 degrees and the temps are in the 80's, you probably would not see me in my dry suit. Pants or wader would more reasonable. Here were the water is colder the surf and waves bigger, the fog much more intense, the coastline much less populated, and the sharks hungrier, my personal choice is to error on the side of safety.

I also still wear waders much of the time, but I'm mostly out there when it's glassy and calm. I'm experienced and know my limits really well. You're always taking a chance, but I stack the odds in my favor in other ways than my attire. My .02 cents.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Why can't new people on this site post fishing reports in peace?  If he wants to wear waders and put his PDF behind his seat....that's his business.  My .02

Nothing wrong with trying to help impart wisdom on someone who may or may not be a complete noob to kayak fishing in the mighty Pacific ocean. Especially if it's a report posted in the public section that's viewable to thousands of lurking kayak groupies. If ya don't like reading posts that you perceive to be lecturous, then just keep scrolling and don't read. Same goes for posting pics & vids of yourself doing something potentially dangerous/stupid/noobish; if you don't wanna read replies that sound like lectures, then don't post pics & vids. Problem solved!

I enjoy fishing reports especially when people go the extra mile and post a video.  I would hate for new people on the site to be turned off from posting reports, like most of us are already, because the "NCKA Police" is going to jump on their ass.  I'm all for safety and I have learned a lot from constructive criticism, but give the people posting fishing reports a break and show them some love.

+1.
I don't see it as a lecture. Looking out for someone's well being and opening up a discussion is not what I would call lecturing. Lecturing is where the person has no say. We all bring great advise and experience to the table.
