Hey all. I'm just getting back into fishing and just seen and heard of this for the first time. "Donkey rig" and I guess there are other names for it. The presentation looks so life like and sick. I can't wait to try it the next time out. I wouldn't even care if I caught anything. I would have fun just watching the action of the baits! Have I really been living under a rock? Are any of you guys using it? Any tips or pointers? Besides for LMB, looks like it would be killer for stripers and maybe halibut as well.

No never done it donkey or Zulu. But it sure looks cool..
I bet that would look even better with squid jigs.

Yeah it does! I know it's only been about 12 hours since the original post but it's been nothing but crickets and tumble weeds untill your post. I figured that I have been living under a rock and have been so out of it that no one wants to waste their time telling me, or everyone made up rigs last night and are already on the water using them. If it weren't for getting the taxes done today and taking care of the WAF account, I'd be on some water right now trying it out.

I haven't ran two like that. I bought into the banjo minnow when it first came out. They were actually an incredible bait. I quickly learned the proper twitch to bring them alive. I didn't care for the spring that you twist into the nose though so I started hooking them sideways onto the hook they recommended. That evolved into running them sideways on a Gamakatsu EWG. Then about 10 years ago I tried the fluke (flat one) from Zoom Baits and it's one of my go to baits for trout, bass and even rockfish. My biggest limit of spots was entirely on a fluke in baby bass. I've caught huge rainbows and browns on smoke n shad and smoke n shad or pearl is awesome in the salt. I've caught nice lings, plenty of rockies and if there is bait around, the perch tear up the mini flukes. They can be fished weightless on the surface, sub surface,  dead sticked with various split shot, dartheaded, drop shot, Carolina, etc. My favorite is small split shot on 6 lb. flouro and throw it around trees and Rocky points post spawn and just let it sink slowly and watch the slack for a pick up. Ocean is drop shot for sure. Action when weightless or little weight is almost like a popper, but use smaller pops. I usually twitch three times, wait three seconds, twitch twice, wait three seconds, repeat. Fishing the bottom is easy as dragging it with the occasional twitch if it hits a rock or cover. Flouro is your friend.

The action looks really cool.  Does it tangle though?

I was thinking the same thing as I watched the video. Looks as if it would be difficult to cast without tangling. I would like to try it for rockfish jigging.

That looks good for bass or striper. Rockfish, not so much. Where would you put the weight? Remember, rockfish will hit anything. You'd be better off with a hi/lo rig for RF.

Look closely at the still shot ,there is an egg weight between the swivels. I think this would be a very good slack tide teaser to force a bite when action has slowed. No greater satisfaction than catching fish with new experiments :smt003

Please share any results. I'll be doing the same. Definitely going to be playing around with it. Going to try it out with double senkos, double lizards, one each. Lots of options.

Does it tangle though?
+1

I would tangle it.  It looks cool in the video but somehow i would tangle the rig so bad that i would have to cut it and go to a single..

Sorry to be so negative.... Someone please prove me wrong.

I bet that would be killer for spotted bass down at Lake Naci. I've caught more spots down there on Zoom flukes than anything else. If one works well, two might work better! I've also noticed when I'm fighting a spot that others will come up and try to steal the bait out of its mouth. I bet this rig would result in some crazy doubles,
