Heck, I think it would be cool if they would divide the license so you could get just a reservoir/lake/pond license, stream/river license, saltwater license and it be priced accordingly.

Lemme get this straight... You want to make DFG license and regulations MORE COMPLICATED??!!

I don't think it would make anything much more complicated, other than maybe a wardens job. Keep regs the same. ALDS database is supposed to make things easier. Nothing is really that complicated now. There are a lot of folks, especially older ones that would really benefit from something like that. Money is tight for a lot of people and being able to legally take fish for table fare, which is kind of a right in my opinion, helps out considerably.

I wouldn't mind a reduced rate license or sliding scale license fee structure based upon income and/or eligibility for government aid programs.  Fees based upon need rather than use is certainly justifiable, and would be less complicated for everyone.

When this idea was initially brought up, I believe there was some pushback from the Wardens Assoc because it would be harder to enforce than the calendar-year licenses.

I dont mind paying full price. The money goes toward some great projects. Besides my license has already paid for its self. I am hoping for a lifetime license, hey maybe that would be a good raffle prize
I only fish on days that end with Y

What your missing is that the California Fishing License is being promoted as good for a year.  It is not.  It is PRICED for a year, 365 days, but depending on when you buy it, it may not be good for a year.

To simplify: if you are trying to be frugal. ..buy your fishing license on January 2nd.

The fishing license is not promoted to be good for a year, it is sold to be good for THE year. My current license is good for any day in the year of our Lord 2015AD. I guess I assumed that you buy a license at least once per year. I guess we could have an argument to make this thread a tad more interesting but for that both views would need to be compelling.

I hope you have already bought your license and I wish you the best of luck this year, Jerry.

I agree, I spend more on gas getting to the fishing spot.

This already exists. My grandpa (91yrs old) lives on Social Security and fishes every day for planted trout for meat. He had been getting his license, 2nd pole and river stamp for something like $13 for at least a decade now that I know of.

You guys have seen this right ?

According to a study recently released by CSL, annual fishing license sales have declined by more than 55% since 1980, while California’s population has grown by nearly 60%.  Underscoring the importance of a legislative solution, the state could experience another 47% drop in fishing licenses over the next 10-15 years if the current trend continues.  This further decline could have a profound impact on the State’s tourism industry and communities dependent on recreational fishing for economic activity and jobs.

If passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown, #SB345 would:

Establish an annual license that is valid for a full 12 months, rather than just the calendar year.
Create a junior fishing license at a reduced base price of $8.25

However, we cannot move this legislation forward without the help of California’s 1.7 million recreational anglers!  Please take a moment to sign our “Support #SB345!” Petition and be sure to let your friends and family know about our legislative push!

And the reason for......this is bill, well its a good report no droughts about it, no pun intended because if nothing is done about the high cost of fishing license, fishermen are drying gone just like water in a drought. This report highly indicates fishermen in this state are becoming less and the main reason for doing so is the cost of a fishing license.
