Has anybody else noticed how nasty EBAY water tastes and smells lately?  We used to have the best water.  As a brewer,  I always appreciated the great tasting water from EBMUD.  Lately our water tastes and smells too bad to drink.  I'm aware of the drought situation and plan to conserve as much as possible.  I installed a hot water recirculating pump last week to eliminate the waste from waiting for hot water and plan to do everything possible to conserve but this new stinky water is going to be difficult.   Anybody else notice the change to our water?

Martin, you should give them a call with your concerns. They should have a water quality customer service department that can come out & take some samples, test them, & hopefully address your problem. When it gets hot for prolonged periods in the summer the algae blooms in reservoirs can affect taste & odor but it seems a little early for that to be happening already.

There was a recent news story regarding it. EBMUD said it was from algae growth but was not unhealthy... and they're continuing to monitor it.

Yes, EBUD is drawing warm water from the warm top water rather than the usual cold water from the bottom, leaving that for the fish.

There is algae in it and it's not as crystal clear but supposedly it's safe after it gets filtered..

Yep, Skelly is correct. EBMUD is drawing water from the surface of its reservoirs rather than down deep. The idea being to benefit salmon runs etc.

I guess it's time for a filter on your incoming water line.  You would only need to filter during the hot months of summer normally. In winter you could either bypass
the filter or pull the filter media out if possible.

We have filters on the refrigerators and they seem to  work pretty well.  I guess we will just have to get used to the odor when showering and brushing our teeth.   Come on RAIN!

Within 1 month of us moving to the Tri-Valley, we ordered Culligan Water. The water out here , IMHO, sucks!!! I hate to pay for a service twice, but we couldn't stand our coffee and even cooking with it changed the flavoring. Wouldn't surprise me if EBMUD owner Culligan Water :smt005

This works for us in a pinch.
Makes a big difference in the drinking water and the coffee tastes better too.

Tote thats what we use too. We were strictly bottled h two oh for the baby thru 1.5 yr then we switched to filtered tap. Not bad except its kind if a pain to put in the fridge occupies space

We tried that before we ordered water service. It wouldn't remove bad taste or the smell.

It's going to just get worse until this drought is over.

Get a good inline water filter for  your cooking / brewing etc.  The dual stage filters.   Those will remove most all the mineral content, heavy metals, clorine.

We use a Brita filter for making coffee and it seems to work pretty well.  We generally make espresso and the coffee flavor is bold enough to mask any other flavors that might still be in the water.  If I decide to brew again. I'll need to get a good filter.  Until then, I'll be buying beer.

Haven't noticed it at our place in Oakland, but we're maybe a block and a half from a filtration station.  Don't know if that matters.  We did have a "green" algae taste at the end of last summer, so I think I know what you mean.

If your water is coming from San Pablo Res I'm sorry. I just could not hold it any longer when I was fishing. I know it says no body contact, but my body did not touch the water. Just the golden rainbow.
