Just saw this on the Fort Ross website:

Feeling the volunteer spirit? Here's another chance to do good for your public lands: Help park staff and FRC prepare beautiful Reef Campground for its Spring opening by volunteering with CSPF's Park Champions. Brush back vegetation, clean sites, and replace sections of split rail fence. A light lunch will be provided.

Unfortunately the volunteer opportunity was last weekend....but I hope this means that Reef will re-open this year.

I hope they open it this year. Looks like it would be a fun location for an event.

There is no launch there unless you carry down a cliff trail.

I think it was open to the Cal-Trans workers that were working on the road for awhile, and I think it was open for people participating in the Fort Ross festival last year, as well.

. . . then over the boulders and across the kelp beds.

Kelp beds rock.

Not when you have to cross a couple hundred feet of solid kelp with a Hobie to get to open water.  Camped at Reef, launched at Ft Ross the next day.
