With rock fish right around the corner, here is a DIY article for making your own shrimp flies. This is the basic shrimp fly, once you practice up making a few, you can get REALLY creative and they will surely catch fish! Enjoy!

Thanks Rich! I'll definitely check it out. Nothing like catching fish on home made lures

Thanks Pablito! I used orange and yellow thread so it would show in the pics better. I thought it was going to be easy, to put into words how to do this. I started writing this weeks ago, revised it many times, and finally settled on this version. The photos, with the exception of the darker photo where I am wrapping in the flashabou, are pics I took of my neighbor's handy work, following the instructions! If Victor can follow them and make a decent shrimp fly, most anyone can I think.

Thanks for the write up Rich! This is definitely something I need to start doing instead of buying the pre-made ones with their cheap hooks.

Cody started last year, and it was a big thing for him to catch his first kayak ling on HIS shrimp fly up at Shelter Cove last year. Kinda neat.

You can go to a fly shop, or, I get most of my stuff at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I got loads of feathers from snow geese this year. Two feathers is all you need, or thread from a lawn chair like ^^^too. Go to a barber shop and collect grandpa's hair and call your shrimp fly company "locs for lunkers!" You really can use anything!

Been tying shrimp flies and teasers for the heck of it. You can use anything and they catch fish. I love to add them to my jigs to give it a nicer presentation and they hold the pro cure sent for a long time
