My buddy in Hawaii told me they use black and white stripes on their surfboards to keep sharks away. Working for me so far. $5 at Home Depot...

Stripes didn't work for Fishunter, but the scary face might help. Love the look and on a long boat seems like it might be effective?
**** a bunch of that.

Hey guys,

I'm hosting the event as a courtesy to the local NCKA and surfing community.  If you're interested, awesome - I can't wait to see you there.  If you're not - stay home, it's pretty simple.  No skin off my nose either way.

I'm not endorsing the product, I know about as much as the rest of you at this point.  I'm doing this as a favor to several of you that have asked for a local shop to carry the product, and so that I can gain more knowledge myself.  Once I'm better informed I'll make a determination about whether or not to carry SharkShield in our stores.

Carry on.

Well said Dave.

Thanks for putting in the work to host this for us. Wish I could make it to see you and drink beer, I mean to learn more.  :smt002

et three folks that I now have contact and do fishing hook ups ,just from that one get together you put on for us.
Amy and I still love the hats and visors too..and cant wait to fish up there this year if you have the kayak derby..lot of work you put in for our sake..
Were looking  forward to this event and hanging a t Moss ...and thanks again
we might have +1 or 2 but I'm not going to rsvp them cause they are iffy a week out on stuff....

If nothing else it'll be a good chance to re-connect with friends, drink beer, and swap stories in a fun place.  For those of you that haven't been the Elkhorn Yacht Club is a blast!  Definitely not the place from "Caddyshack," much more down to earth.  "Salty" is a word that comes to mind...

Nice ! Right in my own back yard. Hope to make it and swap some great white tales. I got one. Little on the weak sauce. But got to see one right under my aluminum. Not like some of the veterans that got the E ride.
Maybe they have a cheaper version of the shark shield with a hand crank !  :smt044

That's a great idea. Maybe I can rig something up on my Hobie to use pedal power---kinda like the kayak anti-shark version of this...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I wish you were closer, Dave, I'd like to go. I'd like to learn more about the Shark Shield.

Are the special deals only available that evening?

Thanks for putting this together anyway.

Wish I could have made this one Dave.  Hosting a seminar that night too.  I would REALLY like to learn more about the shark shield.  Not biased any which way myself on these units.  Great opportunity for everyone to learn a little more & make up their own decisions.  Thanks Dave for hosting this!

I was watching an episode of the PTTF (Pro Tarpon Tournament Series) in Boca Grande last night & one of the boats had one dangling over the side of the boat to keep the sharks off their tarpon ... which is a HUGE problem there!  Funny thing though ... they had a fish on for something like an hour fishing it only to find out IT was a shark on their line.  Irony!

I'm excited for this event - please help spread the word and shoot me an email or PM letting me know if you're planning to check it out.

Also, just got word from the Elkhorn Yacht Club that the bar will be OPEN!   :smt003
I'm paying for the bartender and Shark Shield is buying the beer and pizza.

Let's make this a fun one!

I'm wondering if the species matter when using the stripes? Are they more concerned about tigers than GWS over in HI? Checkout the attacks in 2010 (stripes) and 2012 (keel guard).

Arrrgh, I really wanted to attend this because I am considering a Shark Shield for myself. But I've got a baseball game in Salinas on Thursday night :-(  I hope it is a great mtg with lots of info though.
