The kid is just days away now and I have to up size my frontier. A king cab frontier can't fit a wife and kid. Considering a 1/2 or 3/4 ton. Probably won't go new due to price. Anyone have opinions on 2010-2013 models? I figure towing with be 50% of duties. 22-24' travel trailer and 22' marlin cabin cruiser. Bonus would be short distance hauling a john deere g (6k lbs + trailer) to shows and parades.

If anyone is interested in a 2005 frontier v6 4x4 let's talk.

get a 250/2500.  Beefier frame, suspension and brakes. much better for towing and stopping a heavy load.

I absolutely love my 2013 Ram. If you are mostly towing with it I would also suggest 2500. C

I think your best bet would be a new Ram 1500. 5.7 ltr hemi with the 8spd tranny. Tow's a little over 10k lbs. Used 2500 trucks are a ripoff right now.

I've had 3 f150s and never had a single problem. I have the frontier now for the fuel efficiency though.

Pulling is the easy part, stopping is where it matters.....especially if you're gonna be heading into the sierras to camp.  Get a 3/4 ton, no point in going smaller.

Any of the big three, all have their pros and cons so whatever you prefer.

Unless you do a lot of towing, stick with gas over diesel.  I've got a diesel.  It's nice.  But new diesels require that extra fluid tank; DFT or something like that.

But, with that said, if you DO plan on much towing, then nothing beats a diesel.  My 2006 is as good as the day I bought it, hauling and towing almost every single mile that's been on it for over 100,000 miles with an easy 100,000 more to go before even thinking of needing anything more than routine maintenance.

BTDT with  a 1500 for towing, way too inadequate for towing.  2500 minimum.  Yes 1500 series will tow, but 2500's will do it better and stop better.

2012 and older do not require the extra additive. If towing is a major use then go diesel. You will be amazed at the torque for climbing and engine braking for down hills.

Any opinions on this rig:

Looks to be a decent setup with low miles.

Even if towing is not the thing you do all the time you might want a diesel for milage anyway. I would definatly go 2500-3/4 ton. I've seen 1/2 tons and issues several times. Usually braking problems.  I have towed probably close to 1/2 million miles and like the beefier trucks hands down. Ride better, tow better, stop better. Like Mr Ex says, all of the big 3 have pros and cons. Get what you like to ride in.

I rarely tow, but last the truck I had was a GMC 2500 that I loved everything about but the gas milage. Now have a Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi V8 that I have been very happy with but I do miss the 2500 for weight capacity.

BTW, when I went truck hunting, I went through Costco.  Got my truck through them at my Dodge dealer at fleet price.  I kid you not; I can sell my truck today, a 2006, for more than I paid for it new.
