Has anyone ever gone out to angel island? I have a zodiac and was thinking of taking the wife out for the day. Wanted to see where the best place to launch from was and if there was a good spot that I could just land on the beach.

Your best bet is to tie up at one of the slips at Ayala cove. There is a little beach in the cove, and a nice open area for a picnic. There is also a concession stand and bathroom there.

The other landing sites would be Winslow Cove on the northeast side, and the beach on the east side by Quarry point. I would not land at the beach on the southwest side by Point Knox since it is very exposed.

Awesome beach on the East/SE side of the island, very protected, and you'd probably have it to yourself.  Make sure you access it from the north though as that SE point (closest to Alcatraz) has some nasty current.  There's a small public launch in Sausalito on Bridgeway @ Turney St., near the old Margaritaville restaurant.

I did this paddle once and it was a lot of fun. We launched from sausalito and lunched on the island, then took the tide back.
Be sure of the tides, as noted currents can be strong around the island.
There are some nice hiking trails out there.
