After washing the car this afternoon, I found this guy in the driveway.  I thought at first it was a worm that came out of a crack in the pavement from the water, but upon closer inspection, I see it is a snake of some sort!  Very small, he was pretty lethargic when first handled.  After sitting in a mason jar on the kitchen counter, he became much more active.

Anyone have any thoughts on what kind of snake it is?
For reference, I live about 7 miles South of Placerville at the 2,000' elevation.

I found an adult Brown Sharp Tail by Alpine Lake in Marin county once. They aren't very long. I think you are right on that one Jerry. Cool snake indeed. Have you ever seen a California Mountain Kingsnake where you live?

I looked up what that California Mountain Kingsnake looks like and no, have never seen anything like that.  I've gotten several Northern Rubber Boas though!  They are cool!  Make a decent pet if you have pinkies available.

Yep, sharp-tailed snake.

Harmless, unless you let them touch your skin.

Hey Jerry,
Keep an eye out for these guys. Blue Tailed Skink. Kinda rare, but I've seen a few at my place near Somerset.
