Has anyone been to the new kayak launch at Cullinan Ranch? I read they are restoring the marsh along side highway 37 and built a nice kayak launch. I guess it is on or near Dutchman Slough a mile or so past Mare Island. I think I'll try to drive by and take a look after work this week.

I got a chance to check it out today. I think there was 10 or so parking spots. The off ramp and on ramp for highway 37 is nice and safe. It is 3.3 miles west of the Mare Island overpass. It is 2.2 miles farther west to get to the Skaggs Island intersection where you can pull off and then re-enter the highway and turn left to head back to Vallejo. There is a flashing light and a small turn lane so you can cross west bound traffic and then sit safely in the merging lane while you wait for an opportunity to merge.

There is a gate that I guess is designed to let pedestrians, wheel chairs and kayaks through. I'm not sure if it will work well for kayaks or not. It might need some adjusting so a kayak on a cart can fit through.

This was the time and tide at Sonoma Creek. Maybe I should have checked a different station. I'm not sure what path the tide takes to get in there.

For some reason I was under the impression the kayak launch was going to be into Dutchman Slough.  Those pics look like the launch is just right there off the side of 37 into the new impoundments. It would still be a pretty decent paddle to get to the slough and into any water that might be fishable.  That's kind of unfortunate from a kayak angler stand point but is great for the bird watchers.

Maybe a mile to the slough. It seems someone thinks the pond will be fishable with all the money they spent for the fishing pier.
