So for the first time I own a yak without any kind of a hatch to get at the interior. Will I get grief from the inspectors for them not being able to inspect the interior of my kayak. Think I should install a small hatch to avoid this kind of scrutiny? I mostly fish salt water but now that I have a tandem I plan to do a lot more freshwater fishing with my daughter and eventually my son.

So what do you guys think?

Tell them they have to crawl in thru the drain plug if they want to inspect it.

If they ask where the hatches are ... look around frantically & tell them "they must have flown off on the drive over".  That'll keep 'em guessing. :smt003

What kayak do you have that does not have any hatches?

Doubt it will be an issue.  If there isn't a place to get mud into, or water out of, what is there to inspect? But i'll let you know how they inspect my SUP this weekend.

They might make you lift the opposite end of your kayak to prove their is no water in it.  Just make sure there is no water in it before you leave.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

So for the Forebay, the inspections seemed different for each person.  For me the SUP didn't need to come off the rack since it had no hatches, and was very clean.  And then Sara's Revo was up on my Hullavator rack, and after they checked out the inside hatches and the side, I offered to take it down.  The guy was horrified when he saw water drip off the side and was about to not let me pass.  I had to make him get someone else and explained that it rained in Boulder Creek that morning on my way there, and must have gotten trapped in the seat scuppers. The inside was bone dry (not OTW for over 6mon) Thankfully they finally agreed and let me in.

One car did not stop to pay and be inspected. I don't think he was part of our group.

I think it just goes to show that it totally depends on who the inspector is.
