Hot water is rumored to help spread Poison Oak. The doctors say it can't spread by scratching. I say yes it does! As I have experimented doing this, from one area to another one.

as hot I could take it..soak a rag in water and microwave it steaming hot and then careful press it hard on the spot that is going bonkers itching...in seconds it peaks and is turned off from itching for an hour or more...makes the histaminens or whatever spread it around in the blood I'm told but by the time this is needed im on prednisone orally and a shot to bump start the dye off....hottest shower I could take and it would be knocked out for a while...insane how miserable it can be.... :smt009

Forgot to mention. Hot water feels GREAT! The hotter it is the better it feels. Just don't scald yourself, but you'll want to.

Oh I meant to Ask Montana if they had Poison oak or Ivy there on Montana. Like I said in North Id we had nothing poisonous at all. But now imported from Most likely California they have black widow spiders.

Nope! Or maybe I should say it is as thick as star thistle! That way less people competing for my poison oak-free woodlands!!

nothing but endless miles of poison oak infested forests in Montana. once you're weakend by the poison oak, you're completely helpless against the ravenous predators that roam the mountains, looking for tasty, sun kissed Californians to devour. Avoid Montana at all costs!!...why do you think me and Rich both moved here? :smt003

Damn man that sucks. I've been lucky to not have much of a reaction all my life. Which isn't to say I don't get it I just end up with very small, manageable break outs. Disc golf is my weakness.

EDIT...anyone had east coast poison Ivy..it's been almost ten years for me so the memory fades behind the more recent Cali Oak.,,,,toe to toe I'd put my 5 bucks on Cali oak...but I remember burning weeping skin back east a few times..once from not washing it off in time for sure

this guy makes sense but still why not use expensive soap and a wash cloth....what savings...I'll save money somewhere else..give ME the good stuff  :smt044

I've had brutal experiences with both.

Always carry a small bottle of dawn and rag , and be hyper-vigilant about recognizing poison and washing. And keep prescription strength steroid cream in first aid kit. If applied at first signs of breakout usually prevents a bad outbreak.

Oh I hate urushiol. Cant even count how many times Ive had it. At least five times a year.  Have been highly allergic to ivy and sumac growing up in the woods of IL and WI. Moved here and seem to think I don't react as bad to the oak now but still get bumps and rash from the dogs and gear months later. I have become attentive to washing after my adventures. Tried most the tricks as its an allergic reaction so I think its mainly staying clean and healthy to keep it at bay.

A good ( fish friendly) trick to get rid of the oak in the yard is put "round up" in a can/jar and soak toothpicks in it. I use a paint brush and start painting all the leaves I can and any stem or vine I poke the toothpick into it and leave it till its dying. This mainly stops it from spreading all over the yard. I say this because weed killers"round up and so on" are bad for fish reductive systems. I used to just "dose" the whole area before I knew it affects.

really good point a throw away paint brush is also the best way to really apply a good dose ...paint the whole plat-whatever kind it is- and re-apply in a week -and as needed for tough plants....i'm way in the country, a mile almost from any water source, is spraying still bad news, just curious

oh and for the mushroom pickers ...I noticed 'slippery jacks' and other none choice ,Boletus type, mushrooms with slimy caps contain ,or soak up, but I think they contain some type of urushiol.
i have stopped the car gotten out and picked one slippery jack to take a picture and gotten back into the car..only grass around the mushroom, and before the car trip was over I transferred urushiol or the like to one eyelid and had days of misery ahead with huge reaction in hours---this was after other times i 'thought' a mushroom had been the cause, this time I knew what i touched

Pee on it!

I had it really bad about 10 years ago. My friends dog was running around all day in the bushes at Don Pedro. That day later i found the dog sleeping in my bed on the houseboat. On my way home a couple days later my face started swelling so bad I could barely see to drive home. Went to the doc in box to make sure my lungs sounded fine. Was prescribed Pred, Berta found the dosage and took me to her vet office and got it for me out of the her med cab and that is why I bark out loud at times.

^^^ this makes a lot of sense now. =)  This is all good Info guys thank you, Is the Technu available in local drug stores or is order online the only way???  I want some for the glove boxes of my work trucks and my camping gear immediately.   I had one of my employees get PO and I felt pretty sorry for him....that ill teach to piss in the woods when there is a perfectly good bathroom available on the job haha

Buy Tecnu (Or other brand) & follow directions after suspected exposure.

I get poison oak bad (steroid shots etc.), and I work in poison oak frequently. Tecnu is the best stuff I have found.
