Well, my days of immunity are over...... :smt013

I broke out with a rash on the 18th and was ID'd as Poison Oak. The last day I could have had exposure in the wild was the 31st of Jan. I began washing anything that may have the residue on it, and I thought of the dog. I took ol Peps to the delta and let him swim until he flopped over, then gave him a bath when we got home.
This changes my whole approach and tact when I am out in the woods now. I have to pay attention to avoid the stuff I guess, or go through this rash thing again.
I have heard and read since last week, that people often times show no signs of poison oak for years, and then suddenly, for no explainable reason, that same person becomes sensitive to it.
What are your experiences?

Sorry about the turn around with poisin oak.  I'm in my mid 60s and poison oak has never had an effect on me, even when tromping though it.  Hope it stays that way!

I have always gotten it..as a kid it was Super bad--then in my 20's I could go pick mushrooms in the woods all day, and get it on one arm or in  tiny bumps here and there very mild--not so bad-----then that phase left and now

no joke bro---serious stuff...cant even pick very shiny /slimy topped mushrooms because they seem to have the same oil ..either soaked up from the soil  they grow in or in their own make up...

getting it from the dog is super common if the dog runs in bushes and you pet it...your done!!!

Always been allergic to it, likely always will be!  Just remember, from now on be very careful when taking a leak, practice and perfect the art of the zero-touch peeing method.

Used to play in it as a little kid, never got it until I was about 11.  Now I can't even look at the stuff without needing a prednisone shot.

The burt's bees poison ivy soap works well to take it off you and your dog too.

I'm the same.  As a kid, I could climb through it with no effect.  Now, I get it bad.

My Doc told me after possible exposure to use over the counter poison oak soap (or just plain soap with no moisturizers in it) in a cold shower.

Crash brings up a good point--scrubbing with poison oak removing soap in a hurry..like after a hike on tops of hands and eye lids and ankles...and on the other important parts that may have seen daylight  :smt003

can stop it in it's tracks sometimes--if i feel that little tingle on a finger or my face and scrub it real good with technu then shower and scrub everything real good...it will only break out in that spot and subside...if i leave the oil on that spot very long after feeling the tingle..it's over! time for a shot..having technu in the med cabinet is a must

Pee on it!

I had it really bad about 10 years ago. My friends dog was running around all day in the bushes at Don Pedro. That day later i found the dog sleeping in my bed on the houseboat. On my way home a couple days later my face started swelling so bad I could barely see to drive home. Went to the doc in box to make sure my lungs sounded fine. Was prescribed Pred, Berta found the dosage and took me to her vet office and got it for me out of the her med cab and that is why I bark out loud at times.

I measure that time in minutes.  I don't care how cold that stream is, I'm going in and scrubbing off asap.

the oils can last for months on plastics / synthetic stuff. Some doctors say that it is not spreadable, like scratching it when it's on your arm one day, then touching yourself somwhere else, wont spread......i told him he was wrong and he looked like i was a fool.

I have had it from head to toe and in the lines of my hand palms.....ask my wife if it spreads.

Worst time I ever had it was from the fires from cohasset to manton in 88 or 89.  The oils were carried in the smoke, the smoke blew east, and I lived in susanville at the time.  I got it in my lungs and had to take lots and lots of steroids to not die.

Oh first order of business........learning to pee, hands free! I got er there too boys.....This is one time, no photo, but IT DID HAPPEN! Take my word. Man, everything I own potentially ahs the oil in or on it. I spend half of my time, belly crawling through some of the thickest stuff god can throw at me. I am not good with this. At all. This is a game changer, I hope I do not become just a fisherman and a duck hunter that HAS to be in a controlled environment. I am not built to be a bubble boy. I am so not ok with this.
