I am going to buy a new 2015 Mirage Drive for my 2012 Adventure.  Is anyone interested in buying my old (2012) Mirage Drive.  Turbo fin upgrade. Works perfect. Never had any problems with it. Id like to get $300 for them. They are $600 new.  I can post pics if anyone is seriously interested.

Why don't you just buy the upgrade kit for $130?

The only upgrades that I am aware of are the ST and ST Turbo Fins.  The 2015 Mirage Drive now includes roller bearings, which are not an available upgrade from pre 2015 models.

I looked a bunch for you, but you just have to order the individual parts.  I have heard of people ordering it from Austin Kayak, Christopher Hyde from NWKA in Coos Bay took orders for all the parts as a kit, and one of the stores in Portland or Seattle had the parts together as an upgrade kit.

Are the bearings sealed and what material? Also, do you know for sure the 2015 drive fits in a 2012 Adventure?
I am sure you've already researched this stuff Matt, but I'm just curious about it.

Just did a quick google search and folund this document.

I read on the HObie site that the drives are not backwards compatible?

I'm not sure if the bearings are sealed or not. As per the photos, they do not appear to be.  The new drive defiantly DOES fit into any mirage kayak. I confirmed this with Hobie. I had the privilege of peddling one a couple weeks ago, and the difference is not earth shaking, but defiantly noticeable. Much less squeaky, less play between strokes, and a general higher quality feel.

As per Matanaska's advise, I also emailed Austin Kayak and inquired about upgrading a V2 drive to the new GT drive. A guy named Chase promptly emailed back and explained

"... While Hobie is beginning to release replacement parts for the GT drives, they have yet to release a full upgrade kit. I've referenced a link, below, to the replacement sprocket, idler pulley and drum."
https://www.austinkayak.com/search/mirage%20drive%20gt%20replacement

Im not completely sure of the exact differences (if any) between the upgraded parts and a complete new GT drive, but looks like a worthwhile upgrade none the less; and MUCH cheaper.

I don't think you can insert the drive backwards.  Besides you wouldn't want to that anyway. The rudder would not steer properly in this configuration. You would only end up doing reverse doughnuts.

I believe his 'backwards' compat. was referring to using a 2015 in a 2012 kayak for example.  Being able to use it in reverse would be cool though  :smt002

I emailed Hobie specifically to ask this question and I was ensured it would work.

Mirage drives work fine for reverse. I do it when I'm fly fishing for trout. Think float tubing, just moving enough for a tight line. The steering is backwards but it's OK. Just flip the drive around, in my case I'm on number 7 for forward, so in reverse I have to change to number 1.
Matt, was it a demo? I'd like to try out that new drive, but last time I checked KayakConnection didn't have one yet.

I meant a guy in the harbor with a new rig. He let take it for quick spin. Its nice and now I want one too. don't really need it, but I have poor self control.
