How fast do you drive with your kayak on your vehicle?  The fastest i drive so far is 65mph on the highway.  The only way i feel confident to do that is when i have the kayak strapped down good.  I put mine on the roof of my suv using the crossbars.  I have 2 straps at the crossbars and 2 more holding down the bow and stern.  Without the bow and stern straps i only feel comfortable at about 55mph or less when driving the back roads (non highway).

How fast do you drive and how is it tied down or attached to your vehicle?  Thanks
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

upside down.....extra tie down from front of veh. to front handle(just incase one of the straps break, the yak should still be attached)

then it's 65-80mph

Yep, straps & a bow line, you are good on any freeway.

Speed limit.  my job has me tied into the CHP pull tag system. speeding, right of way, dui go straight to the work insurance company and they drop you as an work insured driver and you become unemployed. so 70 max on 5 or 99. I tie an extra loop trhough the scupper to the factoy rails as a back up on my camper.

In addition to what was already said, I usually have a lock cable through a scupper too. Just added security so I do not hurt someone with a flying kayak.

Might make you go faster :smt001

I used to carry a kayak on top of my '68 Camaro.  Had custom built roof racks for it.  Never hit 130 though ... with a kayak on it.

65-70, max...

Not because I think my kayak's gonna fall off if I go faster, just because speeding doesn't make much sense.

My typical trip involves less than 45 miles of freeway driving. If I go 85 instead of 70, I save about 6-7 minutes of drive time, use considerably more gas, and put more wear on my car. Not really worth it if you ask me.

80-85  if needed  :smt002, for a short sprint and has been tested so far with both kayaks staying on... :smt001

...like most though just flow of traffic speeds 50-70 the whole way on a road trip..they aint going no where.. check ropes every gas up or road stop
We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

My Truck racks are solid but I use the cable and lock as a last resort for security and to keep the yak at least attached to the truck if the straps fail.

I can't imagine the havoc a yak would cause dropping into 70 mph traffic, a good way to cause a fatality,

My top speed is 74, really.  I'm kinda anal about it.

Been thinking about this for a few days now.     Why's everybody always in such a hurry?
65-70, max...

I see people in luxury cars with all the comfort anyone can dream of,,,yet while driving they tailgate, cut in and out of traffic to get just one more car ahead, only to reach the next bottleneck.  Competitive driving,   from gas to brake,,,  only to take the next turn off for a latte...    Speeding just doesn't make sense.     Makes less sense when you're just headed out to go fishing.

If you believe the scientist view that we need to reduce greenhouse emissions NOW or face serious climatic changes  to the planet.      Take a good hard look at what is happening.  All predicted  years ago. Western drought, rising sea levels... etc.       We all point the finger else where,,, but we're all either part of the problem or part of the solution.   How much you contribute is controllable.       It's about our children's future.

I don't drive in the slow lane because I don't possess  driving skills or can't afford gas.  I was probably one of the worst offenders.     It took many years to learn it's much more relaxing to take my time.

A kayaks drag  doesn't improve mpg as speed increases.

My thoughts exactly Baitman, but throw in the heartbreak of a serious accident at warp speed - life altering.
