What an experience Pete! Glad everything ended up ok.
Had that experience myself diving at SWS with a buddy.

No Bueno Pete  :smt009

You think he saw you and wasn't interested?

Bet that suit was a tad bit Stinkier  :smt003

Woohoo! Account is working again!

One quick correction;  it happened on Monday, not Sunday. A guy in the NorCal Skindiver Club supposedly saw one on Sunday.

To answer your question, I'm 100% sure it scoped me out for a while because when I saw it, the Shark had  pretty much cruised past me. What really freaks me out is the thought that it probably passed within a few feet of me as I was descending or leveling out at the bottom and I didn't even notice it for a while.

The only comfort is knowing that it saw me and decided not to pursue. I guess it's true that the big ones know what people are and don't care about them.
I think they're probably around a lot more often than we think and they know the difference between people and pinnipeds.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”

My favorite moment was Peter realizing how tippy his Scupper Pro was, and regretting leaving the T15 at home. This was right after I beached myself lengthwise on my T160 like a sea lion jumping onto a rock.

I don't dive so I don't know anything about the breath holding thing but I can't believe you were able to keep yourself calm. My heart rate would have shot through the roof. Good job keeping your head and taking your time. I'm not sure I would have been able to do that.

me too , I took a breath just cause I could when I read that part,I could not believe you had the ability to keep it together and not choke on some water

There's a Moss beach in Pebble too...between Asilomar & Pt Joe.

The scariest part of your story, Pete, while I was imagining it...was the fact it was above you...meaning you had to keep holding your breath before kicking to the surface. Then swim to your yak. Just thinking about it made me pee a little.
