At 5'7" and without simean ams it was a very tough reach, I could just barely get my fingertips on it.  Getting it off was not too hard, but threading the nut back on I was really shocked when it started without cross threading.  Thought my shoulder was going to dislocate pushing so hard to reach.

They are engineered to be exactly 1" out of your extended reach, regardless of how long your arms are. Quite a feat of engineering, that.

Longer arms usually does the trick, you should have brought the transducer with you when you picked it up and i could have thrown it in for you!
Believe me I thought about it after the fact, but what happen when I need to change the transducer out.  I ended up having my nice neighbor come over and lend me an arm.   :smt003  I still want to come up with some sort of tool to make the job easier, but the more frustrated I got, the more likely someone was either going to get hurt or something would end up broken.

I'm thankful for the great neighbors I have and for everybody's input here..

No tool necessary
Just ditch the Hobie nut.
Use a PVC coupler nut. Fits perfectly.

I had to put a short piece of gray pipe on one end, now I can easily just reach in and in do it.

I'm just curious, but what's the trick to getting the lil rubber grommets back into the Lowrance wire plugs where the wires go thru? I can't figure how to put one back in

Those Hobie bulkhead fittings are the BOMB!  I use them every chance I get including some uses non-boating related for wire pass-thru.

Ricci,

You have to find the correct rubber grommet that fits your FF cable then once you do it actually slides up from the bottom of the plug housing (hard plastic part).  The grooves in the rubber slide up inside the notch that is milled out of the plastic part.  I wish I had some pictures for you, but there is no way in hell I'm pulling that thing apart now.   :smt003

It is a snug fit because it is supposed to be "water tight".

I had no issues with installing the transducer but i did run into a problem with power cord. On the Lowrance elite 5 chirp there's two cords attached to the power cord. one is for power and the other is for data. The problem is there's no rubber grommet to accommodate the all three wires.

I ended up cutting one of the rubber grommets so it would fit all 3 wires but I don't think it will be water tight until I put marine goop it to seal.

I was thinking about drilling another hole and installing a second tru hull plug or cutting the Data cord shorter.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks,

Could have cut the "other" (NMEA 0183) cord off short & sealed the end off with a small dab of dielectric grease & heat shrink tubing or some of the adhesive lined heat shrink & pinch the tip closed while it's still hot.  As far as a kayak is concerned, there is no need for the NMEA 0183 cable interface.  When I've cut mine off, I typically leave ~3" pigtail of the cable left to work the heat shrink with.
