Still have to decide where i want to mount the battery and if I like having the fish finder mounted on the track.   I picked up an elite 4x chirp ice machine for 260 new which included a battery and charger, carry case and an 85/200 transducer.  I may swap out for a different transducer after a few test runs but we shall see how things work first.  Made my own track mounted transducer mount and currently I have the battery in a dry bag strapped into one of the deck pockets where it will stay until I make a permanent decision on fish finder placement.

I was going to give it a test run today at Shadow Cliffs but some crap just came up that I have to deal with.

Looks good,
I guess the advantages to the external mount are you get accurate water temperature readings and can swap from yak to yak.
Did you consider thru hull installation?

not really. I'm trying to stay away from drilling any holes in the hull to run wires to the fish finder as I might sell this yak.

Thanks guys. the Transducer mount was fairly simple.  Its a flat head bolt and washer in the track hooked to a 90* angle iron. The black epoxy coated arm that sticks into the water is an unused arm from a flat screen tv wall mount.  All stuff I had laying around in the garage (3 more arms are still siting there in my parts box).  total cost was $2.00 in bolts, nuts and washers.

how did the CHIRP end up working for you. Which trans did you end up with?

thanks for the pictures, I was thinking about doing an external mount too.. yours actually looks professional. I'm going to have my cousin weld something together and hopfully it works. Didn't want to deal with putting alot of holes in my yak as well so I might have to pick up a track system as well.
