Thanks Jerry.  I can't get that link to work though, but I was able to find it on the website.

I think I fixed the link on the OP.  Let me know if it doesn't work.

(I think the first link attempt was tied to my personal log-on and that's why it didn't work)

Man at this point there are so many models too choose from, i'm not sure where to start anymore!

Maybe Bill or someone can at least answer this for me.  Disregarding the Screen Size, how do the unit's compare to each other in the 4 and 5 series? I'm thinking of upgrading from my 4-DSI and regular 4 B/W model to something that has more power?  Is power the right word, or is it just the frequencies and depth penetration?

The 2015 Lowrance Elite series consists of 5 sizes; 3, 4, 5, 7 & 9.  The difference in "power" of an Elite 4 vs. 5 or 5 vs 7 is no different.  Screen size is the determining factor between the 4 & 5 and then at the 7 & 9 they add some "networkability" to the mix.

There are a few of the Elite HDI series units still rolling around on the market but have been replaced by the Elite CHIRP series since it looks like all manufacturers are switching to a CHIRP based sounding technology for the most part.  Some exceptions are something like the Elite 3 unit which stays broadband technology due to the pricepoint of $100; color screen.  The frequencies are all the same on the Elite 4/5/7/9 units as they use the same transducer as the older HDI series units (either 83/200/455/800 or 50/200/455/800).  The 455/800 are the frequencies that your DSI model operates on do it has both regular fishfinder and DSI (downscan imaging).

Just ordered this, a battery/charger and a RAM mount for a total of ~$300, could not figure out if I needed some other cables or whatnot. This is my first fish finder and I resisted buying one for several years because I am a firm believer in keeping it simple...... but now that it's an "old type" model I can give it a try.

Whoo hoo!

Now what do I do?

Not sure if I should start a new thread or not, but....

Cabela's just lowered their price on this again!!!

From the sale price of $219 to $214.88.  That's a 2% discount off the sale price.

But you better hurry, it's now listed as 'LIMITED STOCK'.

Now what do I do?

While waiting for it to arrive, look up youtube vids and watch the tutorials folks have posted.  Also see if there are any rigging videos to mount this on your particular kayak.
Once you get it, set it up on your work bench and fire it up.  Play with it and try out the demo mode.  Get familiar with the menus and such so you won't have to fuss on the water.
When ready to mount it, keep in mind ease of reach, angle to your face, (not too close or it will be pointing the screen up into the sun) transducer placement, battery location, etc.

And hopefully we will someday get a seminar for using them here in the Sacramento area, like we were promised.....   :smt010 :smt002

I'm guessing the Elite-4 HDI transducer is larger than the old Elite-4?  I was wanting a Elite-5 HDI, but realized the transducer would never fit. Wondering if the Elite-4 HDI transducer will still fit in my scupper of my Cuda?

The transducer is the same on all of the Elite HDI & CHIRP units.  It is much larger than the older Elite 4/5 units that were just broadband only.

Thanks for the quick response.  I'll pass on it then... too lazy to figure out a solution  :smt044
