Depends on lure weight. Mh for rf and lings 4 to 8oz jigging. M for hali and sturgeon 2 to 6oz. Ml if you want to fish lighter.

Thanks Jim. I was talking about using the mh for fishing heavy jigs close to the  bottom. The m and the ml are fine rods that don't cost an arm or leg.

MH is my goto for most fishing.  Have M, ML and L and they all get used too.

The ML is PERFECT for iron in the 3-5 oz range but too soft for bigger swimbaits

The M of MH is great for larger swimbaits

I'd get both and bring them fishing with you. If you think you need a bit more power, you have the option to grab the other. That's how I fish in the ocean. JMHO

Get both the M & ML then you are set  :smt003  I usually bring 2 rods so I can switch them quickly when the tidal condition changes.

Thats how I roll! 2-3oz Butterfly type on the ML and a 3-5oz swimbait/jig head on the M.

I have a medium 7 foot Trevala. I use a Saltist reel with 40 pounds Power Pro braid. Ever since I started using this rod, I'd never went back to the ugly stick. So now I have 3 ugly sticks sitting in my garage. The Trevala is a very well balanced setup for our type of fishing for rockfish.  it also feels much later then the ugly stick.

Yup, go with a medium. I started with a MH and now I just mostly fish the medium. For me, it's soft enough to manage those big ling head shakes but still has enough backbone to pull that pig away from the rocks. It's the perfect inshore action rod for jigging 2 - 6 oz.

Have you seen the new GX2 Ugly Stiks, lighter, much more sensitive. I bought a 7' MH for $40. They stepped it up, I think I'm going to like it.

^^^ the UGuly stick gx2 is not rated for heavy weight.

I hate ordering things like this online.  Id like to get the extra hassle free warranty from dicks. Ill probably order the medium trevala online.  Since they dont have it.  Too bad they dont have it online  on dicks website either.

Thanks For all the info guys.. Outdoor proshop is over an hours drive from me.

However I did put in a online order with free ship and "Twitter10"  10% discount comes out to the same price as Fleabay.  I rather support local shops.

I ordered a 6.6 med.   :smt002
