hey all, just joined up.  looking into getting a starter yak.  been seeing, hearing all the fun yakers have out there for years now and so i naturally wanna take part in the action.

already have an aluminum boat which i use in capitola and the delta.  actually, have two.  i'd love to either sell the 12' boat or trade to get a starter yak, but we'll see how that goes.

i may know some of ncka members from other forums (i dont change my handle) so pls say hello.

anyhow, will begin looking at all the pages for info and try to make my decision on a starter yak, however, if you have any insight, i'd really appreciate it.

my hope is to have something decent that will have stability in capitola/santa cruz waters for rock/lingcod fishing.

currently, i'm looking at a Perception Illusion with a rudder.

all info is welcomed!

tight lines!

Hello Fnf,

Quite a few ncka members in the Fremont, Union City and Newark area.  We own Hobies and Ocean Kayaks because of their sea worthiness.

We catch fish and crabs too once in a while.  Here's some of our 2014 trips.  :smt002

Welcome,

Mel

Welcome, fnf.  Consider demoing as many models as possible.  I love my Malibu X-Factors - very stable and roomy and no problem to troll salmon gear 10 to 15 miles per session.

Good luck.   :smt001

It's me man!

And yes, got one boat down and honestly have thought about selling the other one and getting a nicer yak.

Ended up with an OK scrambler XT that I traded Lil Bone (Cpt Steve) for my 12'.

It's fine for now but been seeing how easy the paddled yaks are.

Thing is that I'd love for my son daughter and wife joining me on trips so the boat is best for those trips. Maybe if I can get them to rent a kayak they'll like it enough?

We'll see.

I may take the yak out this monday somewhere.

Prob to the delta to get a bit more familiar on it before RF season opens.

Have tried it on quarry lakes in fremont and that was a fun start.

Looking forward to some fun.

Very cool Mel!

Those are some cool yaks and nice hauls!

Not much of a crabbing guy but would love to go out there just to have some fun.

Got my yak pfd yesterday, some scupper plugs for my seat area, and a new high back seat earlier this week.

Looking at radios now too.

Madness I tell ya!

Haha

The madness is strong on this young padawan. I have showed some folks ropes on SMC area as shown by those who helped me get started.
