Hi Gang
I need some recommendations for a lightweight kayak for ocean off Laguna beach that an older petite woman can handle. Since I am BIG I don't know what would work but have been asked to help her. The OK Scrambler XTS @ 12 ft came to mind at 50lbs but are there Yaks that are now Ocean going that are lighter?
Thanks in advance for any comments

One of the things I found with my GF, who fits those specs, is that yaks get "tippy" if you don't have enough weight in them to push the hull down into the water a bit, My GF has been happiest in the 9-10 ft yaks.

Does she go offshore in surf?

No Surf launches for us, I might again some day, but out of the question for her, she does quiet water, Albion river, and Van Damme for the ocean,

2 things happened when she was in boats that were too big, one I could actually see that very little of the hull was pushed down into the water so it was tippy because it was literally floating on the keel,  this wouldn't be an issue with a flatter bottom yak, this is all very marginal were talking just a bit tippy not a big deal,  second again in the bigger boats the wind effects were pronounced, kinda like blowing an empty air mattress across the water.

Just something to think about, and again goes to the demo, demo, demo, concept,

Can't go wrong with an Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT for a lightweight simple kayak.
